I need a little help putting a parts package together for a custom built Commander.
So far it's Caspian titanium frame, Caspian slide, Bar-Sto barrel, VZ ultra-slim grips, standard safety (left side of gun and not over sized).
That leaves out a lot of parts. I'd like the most reliable parts made to compliment this build.
Thanks in advance for any input.

Hi, As a thought you might try www.midway.com and select the schematic for the Commander which will give you considerable selection options. Personally I use Ed Brown parts---YMMV. I'm sure you will hear much good advice from others as well. Good luck on your build. Ralph

I just tried that link. It was video games? I know who you meant though and thanks. Dale

dls56, for heavy duty small parts I like Dave Berryhill and EGW (links at top of page), Cylinder & Slide, Chip McCormick, Kings, and Caspian's.

try that one ;) I usually use Brownells....they stock just about everything from everyone. I've never had an order take longer than 3 days to arrive, even when using the cheapest shipping possible.

Brownell's stock s a lot of parts and there's a lot of good choices available to you. I'm starting to like the Smith & Alexander grip safety among other parts.

I'm not the one building it although it's for me, I've got some ideas but always try to listen to others advise. When I talk to the Smith I want to be informed. He'll know what works best for him. I just want to ensure that the parts are the quality that will insure a long life in the pistol.
Looks are important but function and utility are most important.

Who is doing the build for you?
I spoke to him today and asked him if he wanted his name out on the www. He doesn't do computers and has all the work he wants. He builds mainly for LEO's and Armed forces; some of his pistols are at work in the middle east right now. I respect his wish to remain anonymous.

If parts are available here is where I'm at so far.
Caspian frame and slide. Bar Sto barrel and bushing (match grade). Wolf springs. Wilson Combat pins, extractor (bullet proof), firing pin (bullet proof). Berryhill ultimate ignition set. 3-1/2# trigger. Colt OEM grip safety, thumb safety (standard). Heinie 8 ball low mount rear sight. Tritium front sight (staked). VZ ultra-slims in blasted black canvas. All exposed parts to be SS coated in a matte black self lubricating finish. Wilson mags.
What do you think?

Hi

Probably more important than the maker of each part is weather they work well together. The guy doing the build will have a *much* easier time with some parts combinations than with others. Easy for the builder = less cost to you.

I would recommend that you discuss this with your gunsmith. He may have some preferences about which parts he'd like to use.

You're so right. Parts I've picked are sort of a guide line for him to work with. He's supposed to call me with availability and cost estimate. This will give him time to mull my ideas over and it will be when I give him the green light (contingent upon what he tells me) to use his discretion on the use of parts he feels will work together the best and it should give him ample budget to work with.
All I'm really looking for is a well built gun that is tough, reliable, and accurate. It wouldn't hurt my feelings if it looked nice also.

I'll do just that. Good advise abounds on this site and I'm very appreciative.
