Hello,
I have a Springfield GI and I want to replace the extractor and firing pin stop. The stock extractor is clocking and causing erratic ejection. I know that the firing pin in this gun is specific to Springfield and, I need to know if I need a special FPS or can I just use a standard Ed Brown FPS?
Thanks,
Jeremy

The Springfield specific dimension is on the breechface end of the pin. A standard FPS should work fine.

Do all Springfield Mil-Spec 1911's have a firing pin stop, making them series 80 pistols?

series 80 is a firing pin block, the firing pin stop is on all 1911's.
And its just me, but I wouldn't go with the Ed Brown, I'd get the one from EGW with a square bottom and radius it. It makes the world of difference in the felt recoil.

What is the difference between a firing pin stop and a firing pin block?

The firing pin stop is the small piece slid up into the back of the slide. It holds the firing pin, spring, and extractor in the slide. It has a rounded outside corner that rubs across the hammer to recock it after firing.
A firing ping block is a plunger mechanism used as a safety device. It locks the firing pin in place until the trigger is pulled which activates a lever, moving the plunger so the firing pin can move.
