Noob to 1911s & Noob to this forum, so I apologize if this question has been asked 1k times.

I did a search, and found a lot of info as to what spring was best for the Commander-size 1911, but nothing specifically for a 4" Kimber Pro.

I'd like to stock up on replacement springs for my gun, so your recommendations are appreciated. Also, should the recoil spring be changed every 2k rounds or so, or can it go longer?

Thank you.

Go to the technical issues section, and look up the maintenance thread by 1911Tuner. Though I'm sure the spring rates are different with each size pistol, the maintenance schedule should be about the same.

thanks for the lead. I haven't had the time to acquaint myself with all the sections, and that one should prove very informative.

Kimber recommends changing the spring in the Pro (4") around 800 rounds.
I changed mine with a Wolf XP it has seemed to make the gun run more reliably. It's my understanding that Wolf designed the spring specifically for the Kimber Pro.
Hope this helps and welcome.

Kimber Rep told me that my CDPII Pro should take a #22 spring. Seemed heavy to me. Give them a call.

According to my Wolff catalog, the Kimber 4" pistols takes the same 22-pound spring used in Colt Officers pistols. Wolff number 49022.

Wolff says the Springfield Compacts (also 4" pistols) also take a 22-pound recoul spring, but for the Springfield they list number 49322. I have no idea why the Springfield and the Kimber don't use the same spring.

Back it down to a 20 or even an 18, and they will cycle much better.
