While I was doing some shooting over the weekend I noticed my XSE Commander was denting the mouth of the spent brass casings. Can anyone tell me the cause & cure to this problem? Should I be concerned? Thanks & be safe, Lazyace1975.

Most probably a standard ejection port. The reason why all the latest models (or most of them at least) come with a lower and flared ejection port, is to avoid these dents. If the pistol shoots OK, don't worry about it, unless you want to reload the brass.

If your brass is one-time-use like mine this is not a poblem.

My Sringer GI dents case mouths with it's standard ejection port. I reload them just fine. One run through the sizing/decapping die and it's all better.

Thanks fellas ;) . It had me worried but I feel better now. Just wanted to be sure it wasn't something that would lead to more problems later. Thanks, again, & be safe, Lazyace1975.

What's interesting though, is the XSE's do have a lowered and flared ejection port...

I had similar problems about a year ago with an older government model (series 70). I put in an extended ejector and adjusted the extractor tension. Since those two adjustments, no problems with ejection / brass casings.

Fox points are correct, if it has a lowered and flared ejection port, the extractor might be a little loose. Also, if this is a smaller than Government size gun, an extended ejector can help.

I purchased a new XSE Commander March 4th. Dents in my brass also. Like John points out one of the causes could be the extractor could be loose. With the slide removed, my firing pin stop will just fall out if I push in the firing pin. I doubt it is supposed to be that loose. It fits snug on my other 1911s. While there doesn't seem to be much movement I'm going to replace it anyway just to ensure my extractor isn't moving around. Also replacing the extractor and, now that I've read this post, probably the ejector also.
