I just recently got a Colt Defender and am looking at holsters. I had a Fobus for my old Glock 27 and it worked great. I am looking for any suggestions.

Thanks

I like leather holsters with a thumb break. I am sure there are many more out there, but the ones I use are:

Outside the waistband: Galco Dual Position Phoenix. The Officers' Model size fits my Kimber Ultra just fine (same size as your Defender) It can be used strong side or cross-draw.

Inside the waistband: Bianchi 3S. It's a bit longer than the Defender, but that doesn't matter much inside your waistband. Added bonus is that it'll fit most 1911s (except maybe Sig GSRs and light rail equipped) and both Browning Hi-Powers (9mm & 40). This holster can be adjusted for many different draw angles.

Shoulder rig: Galco Miami Classic. This one also fits both Hi-Powers. If you are a right hander, you can get the optional 4 mag carrier that hangs under your right shoulder. Very cool!

I also like the plastic 1911 holsters Springfield Armory sells. They don't have a thumb break, but they don't seem to need it for retention.

I have a Blade Tech on order.

Some people like the Gunny Sack type packs. I have a Galco one, but I only use it backpacking or hiking, as I feel it looks more out of place any other time than the clothes needed to conceal a holster.

You also mentioned that you had a Fobus you liked. Perhaps you could try their 1911 holsters. I don't have one.

If cheap IWB is what you're after try the High Noon "Bare Asset". If highest quality is your goal go to Horseshoe leather, there's a link up top.

I'm carrying my Colt Defender in a Milt Sparks Summer Special II. This is a leather inside the waistband (IWB) holster with interchangeable belt loops. This particular version is smooth-side out.
They are usually available thru Brownells or Lightning Arms Sports.
This is a top quality holster that won't break the bank. I'm partial to good equipment. I save my money and buy quality, rather than buying "Okay" gear and replacing it over and over. If you decide to sell a well cared-for Sparks holster you can usually get most of your money back out of it.
I use a Beltman belt and a Mitch Rosen SOS on my off-side to carry a Surefire 6P and extra magazine.
Good luck in whatever you choose and let us know how it turns out. Ray
