I cannot get my side stop to go back flush like it should. I get it about 85% of the way in and it stops and will not go any farther. I have given it a decent hit with a rubber hammer also. Any ideas on what may be wrong? This is a new sti spartan that has not been fired. I removed the slide to clean and lubricate it.

Thanks,
Greg

you're not whacking it on the plunger are you? :scared:

take a small object (small allen wrench, large sewing pin, etc) and push the plunger into the tube as you push the slide stop.

That's the only thing that'll bind it up unless you don't have it through the link properly.

Unless you're trying to push it inboard without aligning with the 'takedown notch'. And unless the 'plunger' has slipped into the little channel between the lug and lever.

Sounds like it is binding on the link or it is binding on the plunger pin. Try what was suggested above. Look in the hole and make sure you see the link pin whole before you insert the slide lock - I hope it is't bent!

the above link will show you have to strip and reassemble you Spartan.

Greg, I'm thinking that you are experiencing the same I was when I first got my Spartan. The trick is patience and not worrying about having the little circular scratch below the slide stop.

The only way I can successfully re-insert the slide stop after disassembly is to pull the slide back and line up the dissambley notch with the hole where the end of the slide stop normally rests with my right hand. Once you have this correctly in position, the entrance for the slide stop should be completely clear of obstruction. I then snap in the slide stop and jimmy and work it a little and it always snaps right into place.

Hopefully sharing this experience will help you out. I was a newbie with the 1911 style and it was annoying at first but now I love it and I almost can't stand to shoot my other plastic guns.

Thanks for all the responses! I followed all the tips and still cannot get it to go in completely. The plunger is not caught in between and I make sure I'm lining it up with the link. It goes all the way except for maybe 1/16" and then just stops. I have to use a screwdriver underneath it to get it to come back out so I can try again. I've owned 1911's in the past, but have never had this problem before. I haven't removed the guide rod and it has not been fired. All I have done is remove the slide to clean and lubricate. Its getting very frustrating on a new gun to have this problem. Is there any way the link could be positioned wrong?

I did some further testing and the stop will go in completely without putting it in the rear slide stop hole so the link part is fine. It looks like it is binding on the "step" on the rear part of the slide stop. I think I will call STI and see if it is okay to remove some of that step.
