I have Colt LW OACP that has a pretty sharp protrusion area at the leading edge(looking down bbl) of the slide stop serrations(not dehorned) compared to an old slide stop that came with a mid'70s Combat Commander. It's just finished smoother/better IMO.

They look exactly the same size to me;would it be ok to swap them out(the Commander one is in much better shape cosmetically.

Same question for the thumb safety;ok to swap the OACP(ugly) one for the one that came with the old Commander?

The Commander parts are satin-nickle;OACP parts are black.

I no longer have the Commander :(

TIA,
mike

I've done the parts swap on a number of my guns, but they sometimes need a little hand fitting to work. (for instance, my Sig GSR is wearing my Les Baer's slide stop and my Springfield is wearing the Sig's safety lever.) This is the beauty of a 1911 that is built to spec....parts are fairly easy to mix-n-match.

you shouldn't need to fit the slide stop, but the safety lever might be a little trickier. It'll take you about 30 seconds to pull the parts and install the other ones....just be sure to test for function before you load it

30 seconds! :lm: :lm:
Since I don't know what I'm doing it takes me an hour to field strip it and put it back together. Really enjoy inspecting the innards.(I didn't know that if I take the rear sight off my GC there's a screwhole right thru to the firing pin!

I had almost forotten that my'S80 OACP has a double recoil spring!

The alloy frame makes it easy to see where to lube the rails.

Thank you for your response. I am really overwhelmed at the graciousness of the forum members here. It is so good to know that this HUGE body of knowledge and experience is given so freely.

Stand by for more newby questions,I'm cleaning 3 1911s today :)

Uhhh... Mike... You may have already figured this out, but you might want to do them one at a time. Or we may be up all night with questions. :bed: :D

It was ugly butt I got'erdone!

The manual safety was easy to line up and tho snug at first fell right in. I was surprised to say the least.
Ditto the slide stop! Well I took a few wrong turns/sequence...like I said UGLY.

The new parts look like lipstick on a pig;just need to find out how to shop for(?) an EGW melty bushing to go with the plastic mag release,MSH,and trigger :)

To top it all off it seems to function normally!!!
Very satisfying,indeed! Thanks again,Colt45Guy.

I'm going down by the lake and scare the turtles.
