As most of you know I have been working on my colt commander... I have come to a problem however.. I had intentionally planned to get the whole thing hard chromed... However, after installing a few parts, I like the two tone look.. Should I put polished stainless thumb safety, beavertail, and slide stop? or leave the blued ones in..

If it was my piece, I'd leave the blue parts as is. That's just my opinion, though, and counts for less than it took to type.

I think I'd go with blued.

Alright, i'll break the mold. Normally i'm a traditionalist, so my vote would be to keep the gun original, but b/c it's already getting other mods, and the trigger isn't stock, i'm going to say: go for the polished stainless (definitely polished, and not bright, IMO), and make it "your own". Why not?!! Have fun with it!

I'm also down for the two-tone look.

Well, I had one with contrasting controls (stainless gun, blued controls), and, while I liked the look at first, after a while it started looking like a pimp's piece to me, so I changed it to back to a uniform finish.

I got bored.. And bad things happen when I am bored.. So I started tinkering, and next thing I knew, I had cut part of the frame off.. Polished is all I had laying around, so it went it.. I think, no, I KNOW i want to order a blued one to replace it, but here it is.. Now with a .250 ed brown beavertail...

I'd go color-case hardened with fire-blue small parts...and different grips.

The polished SS would give a nice contrast to the blued finish given the fiber carbon grips your pistol is sporting. That is just me. I like different - versus what everyone else has.
Make it unique!!!

Blue finish for a black gun.
Polished stainless for a stainless gun.
Simple and nice.

If you're goin' "blue" with the BT, i would stick with that theme on the whole gun, personally. ;)

If the gun is hard chromed, I would go with stainless parts.
Some years ago, my trusty Colt had a blue slide and frame and stainless controls (everything was stainless outside, mag release, slide release, thumb and grip safeties, trigger). Then the "tactical" thing hit me and I replaced everything with blue ones. And when I ordered my Talon, I had everything done in Black Diamond. Now, do I qualify for being .... tactical? :p
Men think in mysterious ways, don't you think? :D :)

I like blued parts on a blued gun and SS on SS gun.

Why not have both? And change back and forth as the mood strikes you.

Those black grips gotta go. Looks like fishnet stockings.
My opinion only, of course. YMMV

Stick with the blue, and buy ammo with the money saved. Personally I don't care for flashy weapons. They provide nothing to improve the performance. They can give your position away in the heat of battle. And Juries frown upon glitzy guns.

I say stay with the blued...

stay with the blued, also....the best is to keep it looking stock but you did already some enhancements. i personally don't go for the 2 toned look. if you want some color contrasts, change the grips.

Stick with blued parts, with the mix and match it looks kinda - "Kimberish"

"Kimberish" I like that description. You should submit it to Wikipedia Encyclopedia on line, as a new word meaning glitzy, gaudy, ostentatious.

Well, I'd stay with the blued, but either would look good--just personal preference!

if two toned (blue slide and chromed frame) i think polished chrome would look nice on your controls. But if the entire gun were to be left blue then i guess blue would be more appropriate. One thing about a 1911 is that you can customize it according to "what appeals to you most" kinda thing. If you like boring monotonous mono tone gun............... go for a glock

The Kimber thing is interesting. Come to think of it the only 1911 I have that has both blued and SS parts is a Kimber. I guess the most important thing is that all the controls work 100% and are easy for you to deploy.
