Ramped Barrels?

I searched the forum for an answer on this, but didn't really find anything. Do ramped barrels feed better than non-ramped? It seems that many shorter barrel guns use ramped barrels. Is there a downside to a ramped barrel? Thanks

the one downside is you cannot go from ramped to unramped as the frame is milled different ..

Supposed to feed better and provide better case support for hotter rounds and loads..
