Ok, I'm looking for a set of replacement grips that have a tactile quality akin to a skateboard. The rougher the better. Suggestions?

None of the forum sponsors who offer grips has anything you like?

On the contrary, I'm most certainly interested in VZ products, as well as those by Ergogrips. They were the first two brands I scoped out. It was more of a "far end of the spectrum" type of inquiry. My hands are rather callused, so an extremely rough gripping surface feels unbeatabley satisfying.

www.jerrybarnhart.com/bpp.htm May be able to help. These are just like the grip panels that S.A. sells on the TRP 1911.
Also springfield sells their grips seperate as well with the sand grit texture.
I have used these, however if used for concealment purposes, they will be abrasive on clothing. Floyd

So grips akin to an iron maiden and made by the Marquis de Sade wouldn't be out of line?

I can almost picture a set of cheap wood grips, with dozens of small brads nailed through from the inside so the points poke through the outer surface.

Those are the Ergo grips I mentioned in a previous post. They are just like skateboard tape--rough as a cob.

Jerry Barnhart's grips will peel the skin straight off anyone's hands, who doesn't know his way around a framing hammer, or copious insulation work.

They are only exceeded by "chip-seal", in terms of roughness.

I took a cheap set of plastic "GI" style grips, and sanded the diamonds down to nothing with emery cloth. Using the grips as a template, I rolled them across the back of the the 3M stair tape to fit across the curvature. I marked it as I rolled it. I cut it and pressed it on. The stair tape is sold either in little strips or big, step sized pieces. I bought the stair sized piece for $7 bucks or so. My cheap version of the Burner grips, I guess. Where they are in the hand, the STAY. Tough to turn the gun in my hand to re-adjust grip after reloading.

Pardon me for interrupting an already on-going thread, but I'd like some help. Does anyone out there have personal experience with the Dwyer Group Gripper? I've got a couple of Gold Cups which are not as accurate as the one I used to shoot back in the 60s, and, at $700 + or - to fully accurize one, I'm faced with quite an expense to do them all. So, what can I expect from a Dwyer Group Gripper in the way of accuracy improvement?

I'd probably post a new thread/question on that one in the accessories or gun smithing area....if you didn't come up with anything but this in the search, maybe "Dwyer" would be a better bet.

VZ 320s are my favorite but may not be rough enough for you. VZ has the Diamond model which appears to be really nasty texture.

Doesn't the Colt WWI Repro come with a little bag of WWI trench mud in it? That might give a good grip.

lol, tom & dakota!

i have some Simonich Gunner grips; out of the bag they have a tactile quality akin to a really angry golf ball. the pictures on the Simonich page are of significantly smoothed grips - a buddy got his olive ones from LA Police Gear and they were so sharp they were cutting through the plastic bag. his actually came with a little square of sandpaper for customization, as the really sharp ones are meant for glove-wearing mil/LE users. LAPG didn't have black, which i wanted, so i ordered right from Simonich and they arrived pretty quickly. mine were already smoothed to at least break the points, so i gave them a light smoothing all over and cut down the edges and the thumb safety area. if you call them, you can have flat or tapered bottoms, an ambi cut, etc., and probably get some un-smoothed ones to see how callused your hands really are!

i'd say the only drawback is that at $65 they're on the pricey side of grips (the neighborhood of VZ, AlumaGrips, etc).
