Can anyone recommend a good parts kit? I want a kit with all of the standard parts, but without the trigger, slide release, mainspring housing, grip safety, and slide safety. Those parts I will want to buy separately in various styles, such as extended.

I just got a Safari Arms frame and slide ($75 each - not a bad price) and want to build it up.

Off hand I can't think of any I would buy, but I would stay away from the cheap stuff. I have heard complaints about the kits from places like Sportsman's Guide, seems they are mostly old surplus parts and often covered in rust. I would look at name brand stuff, the cheapest of the lot being Colt and Springfield Armory. To build a decent 1911 you will have to spend money and a pretty fair amount to build a high quality 1911. The cheap parts will give you headaches when you find they are not made to specification tolerances.

I hadn't thought of Springfield. I'll check them out. Otherwise, I'll just have to go to Wilson Combat and tell them to send me one of everything. What a hassle, though.

Thanks!

Let me know what specific parts you're after, I've got way too many here.

I have a frame and slide that are bare except for the plunger tube, and I have a guide rod, so I need all of the springs and pins, grip screws, eschuteons, extractor, ejector, firing pin and f. pin stop, etc. Then I will want to add in an extended slide release, extended safety, beavertail grip safety, Pachmayer grips, long 3-hole trigger, and Commander-type hammer.

I was hoping that someone had a neat little kit that held all of the items except for the safeties, trigger, and hammer. Wilson Combat and some other have spring kits and pin kits but not the whole list.

Oh, and I need all of these in blue.

I've got most of the parts you're looking for, but have never seen a full kit as what you describe.
I'm sure someone has put one together, but have not seen one by any of the big names in 1911 parts.

Ed Brown and Wilson Combat both sell rebuild kits that have all the small pins and springs.
