Can anyone point me toward some black grips? I would like to spend very little. Some simple black checkered grips is what I'm looking for, nothing high dollar like Aluma grips.

Eric, thanks for the offer, but I have 2 home builts. I'm looking to replace the grips that came in the parts kits from Sarco, they are ugly! I don't think it would look right to put colt logo's on them. Both are Essex framed stainless, and I thought Black would look best on them. Wish I could afford some Aluma grips. But spent all my cash on last gun kit.

For inexpensive black grips ($15) you can get Hogue checkered black rubber grips:

Or, like Ericthenorse suggested, get some Colt black rubber grips from a 1991. The logo is molded into the grip and isn't as visible as a gold medallion logo.

Brownells has a couple of options: Pearce black rubber and Pachmayr black rubber. If you don't want rubber, Hogue makes some black nylon grips with a "pebbled" surface and Falcon Industries XT grips are available in black nylon with a textured surface.

I was going to suggest the Pearce rubber grips. They replicate the double diamond pattern very nicely. Another possibility is Springfield Armory. They ship their Mil_spec models with two sets of grips (or so I have been told), one of which is plain, black plastc, checkered. Supposedly these can be found on e-Prey for reasonable prices.

Umm, Pearce ($15 at Brownells) are about as cheap as they come. I had some on a commander for a while while saving up for custom Alumagrips. The Pearce grips are fine, but are kinda thin. I had to put small rubber O rings on my grip screws as spacers to get a tight fit. They are still one heck of a bargain in the world of 1911 grips.

I have a set of VZ 320's in finished black on a Kimber Eclipse and I think they are fabulous. Nice grain to the Micarta and really make the Eclipse look right.
Not too grippy and not too smooth....just right.

Midway had some black checkered ones for 9.95 I think. It took me three months to get them, but they seem O.K.

I've got a set of black grips from an SA Mil-Spec. They are checkered, and I believe they are brand new. If you want them, they are yours for $15 shipped.

If you still have these and would like to sell them I'd be interested.
I have a set of cocabolo grips on my Sistema, and they just don't look right.
