Colt used to make a polished stainless enhanced Government Model and a polished Officers Model. They are real pretty guns, but must not have sold well or were too expensive to manufacture, because they were only made a couple of years and dropped. I don't see many around at gun shows, I don't know how many were made of each, but they are scarce.

I saw someone using a bright stainless steel Colt 1911 (.45 ACP) at the range a few weeks back. It was bright like polished chrome. Fortunately, I had my good pair of RayBan sunglasses on. The reason Colt stopped making them is: the amazing reflections of sunlight coming off them was distracting other shooters and, in some rare cases, causing temporary blindness to people nearby who looked directly at them on sunny summer days.

They do, they are going to have Military markings on the slide. They should be rolling out any time now, thats if they are not out already.

They made them about 15-20 years ago. I bought 2 of them, new in the box, in the late 80's. They are beautiful guns and I still have them. Here is a photo of one of them. The only modification is a Wilson Combat trigger and a set of Cocobolo grips. :)

The item DanielGluch and I mentioned earlier is like this: http://www.colt.com/CMCI/38Super.asp
They do look like polished chrome, maybe even mirror-like, no exaggeration. The model number is O2071ELC2 for .38 Super.

texagun, the photo you posted looks very nice

Since I had always wanted a bright stainless .45acp and was unsuccessful in finding one for sale, I recently had Colt refinish my matte stainless 1991 A1 to the bright finish.

how much was it?

If I remember correctly, the base refinishing charge was $225, and then add to that the charge for a steel mainspring housing and trigger plus three dot sights. Taking into account the shipping charges brought the total to a bit over $300.
