I have the Springfield 1911 A1 and I wondering if anybody has any knowledge of how a .22 conversion works on Springfields. My brother put his Kimber .22 conversion on my pistol and told me that everything looked and feeled right, but the manual that came with my gun said the .22 conversions are not recommended for Springfields. Does anyone know anything about this? Thank you!

I've been using the conversion on my SA GI frame for awhile now and have had no problems. It shoots very nicely and functions perfectly. :)

The current Owner's Manual (Page 60) has a caution for "some" .22 conversion unit but is not specific on manufacturer. I have a Ciener Unit on an older Springfield Defender model that works fine. You may need to use caution in the selection of a unit but there should be one that would be OK.

I've put a Marvel Unit 2 on a Loaded Springer frame with no issues. FWIW, it's also been on a Series II Kimber as well as a S80 Gold Cup with no issues.

Thanks much for the info. I will probably end up with the Kimber .22 conversion. Let me know if anybody heres a reason why this would not be wise. I just want to go and SHOOT AND SHOOT till my hands are raw!!!!
