Is it possible to put a magwell on the PT1911? If so, anybody do it? What style, what brand? Would love to see some pics.

I put a Wilson Combat Extended Magwell on mine for $26 fit and functions great...Midway USA sells them. The stock Taurus mags will not fit the extended magwells unless you are willing to angle the plastic to match up with the magwell. I did this very slowly on my bench grinder and they work just fit and still function great. I have a few other mags that didn't require any fitting because the base plates are flush with the mag body. I wouldn't carry the modified mags or shoot IPSC with them for fear of them craking and ammo dumping out the bottom but the my 8rnd Wilson Combat mags and 8rnd Kimber mags work great and I'm considering some 10rnd mags.

I put one on mine. It's one that has the two ears that slide up under the grips and goes over the lower grip screw bushings. I bought it on e-bay.
I don't have a problem with the factory magazines, but I had to grind/reshape the plastic on two cheapie magazines to get them to work.

I installed a Fusion spring housing with magwell on my PT1911. It just required some fine tuning of the guide rails.

For you guys who have added a magwell to your PT1911, do they sufficiently cover up the sharp corners of the 1911? I am looking into adding a magwell if it will provide a better fit and finish (by getting rid of some of the sharp clothes snagging edges) and allow for faster reloading.
Thanks,
Tont

If all you want is a magwell, the Wilson thing is pretty easy. You have to modify your grip panels to accommodate the screw tangs.
On the other hand, the venerable Smith and Alexander magwell is about the most universal "drop-in" magwell there is. It's a complete mainspring housing arrangement, but usually, at least IME, requires very little fitting on close-to-spec guns.
The new generation of fat slam pads has thrown a wrench in the works, for sure. For example, the ACT style pads are WAY too fat to be inserted into a lot of magwells; Ed Brown "drop-in" for example. I see no reason for the silly flare at the bottom... maybe it's to encourage a certain brand of magwell? ;)

I have it...there is only a slight gap at the bottom of where it meets the frame but covers it up nicely:

the best would be smith and alexander mainspring magwell combo. it would like the magwell grew from the frame.
