I’m sure that any of us who have been shooting for more than a few years has the old parts bin sitting around somewhere – usually in the back of a closet, where we throw odds and ends that are too good to throw away.
The last Colt pistol that I owned was back in 1987. It was a lightweight Commander that was completely stock except for night sites and the grip panels. I had to part with that beauty, but before I did I removed the grip panels and threw them in my parts bin.
Fast forward to 2007 (some 20 years later). My Yost-Bonitz *1 Elite, built on a Colt Series 80 Government Model, arrives and it is truly a work of art! When I received the gun it had a set of their VZ double-diamond grips that are really quite attractive and very well made.

Well, yesterday I went to my old parts box looking for something, and what do I spy? Those old grip panels from my Commander! They sure seemed like just the ticket for my new Colt, plus they have a bit of nostalgia attached to them, as well.
So …………………….

Don’t EVER throw away those “temporarily retired” items from your old parts box! You never know when something in there will rise again and be just perfect …. :D
