View Full Version : For AO owners a Question

I have had my 1911A1 for about a month now and put 500 rounds through it.
It started off pretty rough with issues on feeding and ejecting but now, after the 500 rounds and Gun Butter and a very small amount of polishing it is performing very well.
My satisfaction is pretty high for the amount I paid for it.
So I am wondering if you other AO owners are satisfied or if you regret your purchase?
I am pretty sure I would not buy another AO since I now have the basic 1911 I wanted and may build it to a higher standard but I am not going to say I never would.
Just wondering on the thoughts of other owners.

I have a four year old Auto Ord. with 12,000 rounds on it. I have swapped out trigger, sear and a few other internal parts but the basic gun is stock. It is utterly reliable, tight and very accurate. I too had some problems early on but now it is smooth as silk. Shoot it and enjoy!

I have an older Deluxe model and am quite satisfied with it. I have not had any problems with feeding, extraction or ejection of any cartridge. Nor have I had any problems with sights flying off. My current round count is 2000 with most of it being 230gr ball and Remington Saber hollow points. With these it hits at point of aim.

Mine is an old N.Y. model, and it fails to extract occasionally, (clocking?), and hits me in the forehead with the last empty, but it is one of the most accurate pistols I have. No regrets.

I purchased two new AO 1911A1PKSE pistols in January 2007. Both have at least 1000 rounds of ball through them without any malfunctions. My plan was to use them as a base for a custom build, but because they have operated so well, I'm going to leave one alone and only tinker with the other. I'm just having too much fun shooting with the pistols so I might only invest in some decent grips and sights. I'm very satisfied for the price I paid.

Thanks for the feed back. It's nice to get a feel for what others with experience have to say about thier AO's. I'm complelty satisfied with mine at this point. Sure it took a little more effort to get it performing to a state I can be happy with but for what I paid and learned in getting it up to par I am quite happy.
Thanks again.

I love mine - made a few additions but the basic shooter was great & pretty much bug free :D

Looks like you have put a round or two through that baby. Thanks for the feedback. Seems like the AO crowd does not post very much or often...which I guess is a good thing because it must mean there are not to many problems associated with the AO's.

Lost count of rds thru it long time back- Sheet, it's barely broke in :lm:
Hope you have as good luck with yours as i've had with mine ;)

I got one of the newer GI models. Looks good for a WWII repro, not very smooth on the innards. Didn't like the 80 series type firing pin safety. I have had awful customer service from AO regarding part orders. I get the runaround when I called also. I think customer service is a big part of any company I buy products from. I will keep it and tinker with it, but, I cannot recommend it or buy another one in the foreseeable future.

Chesster,
I agree that thier customer service is lousy. I doubt I would buy another AO or Kahr becasue of that very reason. I have good buddy that is big on the RIA brand and he lobbied hard with me to get one insetad of the AO. I let the cost and avaibailty factor influence me to much and went with the AO. After a good bit of initial "break in" type problems my AO is preforming fine but by "not" getting any responses from the Customer Service group when I asked for quidance I have decided my first AO will be my last. Now don't get me wrong I am pleased with it now, but there is always going to be a little doubt in my mind about the future with it.

My assessment exactly Wm. I really like the WWII look and feel of the new AO, but, have purchased 3 varied RIA 1911s in the past 18 months given their price and outstanding customer service. The AO and the RIA are both good functional shooters, but I know the RIA has stand up guys at customer service available if needed. Chesster.

Not sure what my next one will be, but I will sure be taking a lot of data in over the next few months and be paying attention to other owners feedback and comments. My buddy is so high on the Rock Islands I will be hard pressed to not give them a serious look

I have had mine about 10 years it worked well enough when it was new. I have put over 10,000 rounds thu her. I have since replaced everything but the slide, frame, thumb saftey, mag release. The barrel is a Springfield Match and the rest are all Wilson Combat. They are a great gun for the money.

I have a West Hurley 1911A1 that has been heavily customized and I'm very pleased with it. I haven't shot it much but the gunsmith that did the work said it was very well made and a great platform to build on. And for the price I paid for it used, he was right. I actually never shot it before I had the work done on it, but I'm very happy with the results after the work was done.

Hello HossFly,

If you go to AO entry entititled "First Post-AO WWII" and my reply #12 you can see a few photos of my custom job. Thanks for the reply. I've been shooting 1911's now for about 45 years. Never been without one.
