Hello all,

I handled a "mutt" 1911 last weekend during my CCW class, and noticed it felt very comfortable in my hands. It was a Para-Ord 14-45 steel frame mated to a Springfield slide. What stood out the most though was the Pachmayer Arched rubber coated mainspring housing. I've done an exhaustive search and cannot locate these to fit to my 1911s. I currently have an alloy framed P14-45 that has an arched/ribbed mainspring housing, but was looking to replace the flat mainspring housings on my Kimbers with this Pachmayer part. (one standard Govt. and one officer size)

I understand Pachmayer has discontinued these, but was wondering if any of my fellow 1911 lovers knew where I could find some (leftover stock), or an alternate manufacturer of rubberized mainspring housing.

TIA.

They show up on ebay occasionally. You should be able to get one for $15-$20.

I was afraid of that... been told the same from other forums. Was hoping there was an alternative to Pachmayer. I guess its time to keep an eye out on FleaBay. Thanks.

i dont remember the arched , i used the flat rubber ones that Pachmyer made. If the flat ones will work for you i have about 4 new ones never installed, floating in the parts drawer. Contact me via email if interested, lorew@brgnet.com

Hey Para45! Thanks for the offer... but my grip is more comfortable with the arched version. I will contact the instructor that owned that "mutt 1911" and see if he would swap me his arched for a flat... then I'll get back with you. He did say he preferred the flat version, maybe I can talk him outta the arched for trade on a rubberized flat MSH.

:D :D :D

happy happy joy joy ;)

This eBay link (http://cgi.ebay.com/Pachmayr-Checkered-Mainspring-housing-For-Colt-1911_W0QQitemZ250129785667) to an offering on eBay looks like it might be the arched version . . . you probably know better than I since I have not seen on in person. It's a "buy it now" for about $20 plus shipping.

TucsonMTB . . . who shouldn't be visiting eBay ;)

Pachmayr made three different housings. One was flat, one was arched and fit within the edges of the frame, and one was arched and overlapped the edges. They were designated as A, B, and C, and the one in the auction appears to be a C, which is, I think, the one that overlaps the frame edges.

Thanks for the heads up though! ;)Here's a link to another (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=019&item=290127412372&rd=1&rd=1) that is NOT a buy it now. You can certainly run a few searches yourself. The system will even email you, if you like. Good luck! :D
