New Series 70 Stainless Pistol Questions

I have a new stainless Colt Mk IV/Series 70 pistol that I bought recently. I've not shot it yet, but was cleaning it and noticed that the slide and frame are not flush at the back of the slide. The difference is small, but is visible, feelable and measurable.

I've read that there have been problems with the new Colt pistols in this area. Is this a safety issue or merely a cosmetic one?

What will be required to correct this problem if it's just a cosmetic issue and not a safety / warranty issue.

It is a cosmetic issue. I have a NRM stainless gov't model with the same thing. Oddly, I bought an ORM model, that according to some was the bad days, that is fit perectly.

This cosmetic issue seems to be plaguing most of the new Colts currently being made. What it tells me is Colt has the machines set up wrong to cut the lower barrel feet but apparently doesn't give a rip.

Send it back to Colt and make them fix it.

I'll second that. Send it back to Colt and ask them for a fix.

To further clarify my statement, if folks don't send guns with defects back to the factory they're not going to understand how much of an issue it really is. I honestly believe roughly half of the new 1911's currently being made by Colt have the slide/frame fitting problem described here. If they all went back to the factory, and Colt found itself inundated with guns needing repair maybe they'd get their act sorted out a bit faster.
