I am looking to supplement/replace my current HK USP .45 with a 1911 style gun. I like my HK a lot, except for it's most glaring fault...the trigger. It has about 3-4mm of stack/creep, and it annoys me greatly. The GC has never been shot, but the slide HAS been actuated. I'm buying the gun to shoot anyway. It is a GC Trophy model. I know there is some controversy over it and the NM model. My use for the gun would be self defense and target practice. No competition of any kind. Is the Trophy model suitable for my needs? I like the fact that it has the stronger sights. This particular gun is selling for $800. Does that seem about right? Anyway, here are the pics of the Gold Cup and My HK:

VetteVert:

That's a fine price! :D The majority of late GC's usually run a little higher, so BUY IT!

I am new here myself and just bought a lightly used stainless Colt Gold Cup Trophy. I wanted a 1911 type gun to supplement my trusty Ruger P85 and P94. I will be using it for target practice mostly so the adjustable sites were a must. The way understand it, the Trophy is the replacement for the National Match, it has all the same stuff on it including a National Match barrel. Mine is stamped NM.

In my opinion, this gun is designed to shoot a lot and shoot accurately (just what I wanted) so I felt it was perfect for me. Mine has the black wrap around grips (I like the look of wood better) but I will wait until I shoot it a while before I decide to change, thanks for the picture.

As for price, $800 for an unfired NIB Colt Gold Cup Trophy seems like a good deal to me. Mine was just under that but was 8 months old, and only fired a few times to break it in.

Mine came in a blue plastic case, not a box like the one you are looking at.

I looked at Kimber, Para-Ord, Springfield and S&W in that same $800 price range. All of them had things I wanted (adj sites, stainless, match grade parts, etc.) but none had them all like the Colt. Also I think Colts have better resale value, but I usually keep guns forever. I think the Gold Cup gives a great combo of features at a decent price.

As I said I a newbe to this forum and to 1911 guns in general (and there is way too much snow here so I have not even shot mine yet) , but I do own several other pistols, so my thoughts on this gun may be wrong....

Good luck.

True, I also got my GCT packed in a blue plastic case w/black checkered wraparound grips.
Vettevert's one comes in the Colt custom shop typical blue paper box and has got unsusual checkered wood grips - the only Colt pistol that nowadays comes from the Colt's custom shop packed in the blue paper box is the Special Combat Government. Possibly also the .38 Super BSTS.
Where did you get that GCT model from ?

Pictured is mine w/Pachmayr American Legend grips :

The "New" Series 70's come from the custom shop as well (and are shipped in said carboard boxes). Got one sittin' next to me as I type! :p

LOL My digital camera is "kaput". I DO have a pic of it taken with a crappy $20 camera, but it doesn't even come close to doing the pistol justice.
When I get my new camera, I'll have some pics up.

Gun is NIB, but not necessarily new. I'm not sure how long ago the gun was purchased. Final price was $750.

Tell me Papashah41,

I have extensively surfed the new Colt's web site and found a couple of flaws in the pictures they display compared to the corresponding guns.
e.g. in the case of the series 70's, only the .38 super corresponds to the right picture, the others show a STS and a Blue pistol with spur hammers whereas the written description says commander hammer. I think they must have copied the O1991A1 pics - cost savings or laziness - maybe they had a camera problem as well :D

Anyway, does your 70's look like this... http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y3/Darimian/O1070A1CS.bmphttp://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y3/Darimian/Series70_O1970A1CS.jpg

You could tell by looking at the s/n. Mine is GCT124xx and was produced bewteen 2002-2003.

No matter how "new" anyway, as it is NIB! It is a different and thus unique piece :) That is why every one wants their gun customized, in ordr not to have everybody's gun, not right ? :)

Price is great! It sells between 1200-1500 EUR in Europe  even though 1 USD = 0.70 EUR  - silly isn't it ?!? Similarly, you can get a Sig P210-6S NIB for 2,100 EUR if you are lucky... ;)

You have two great guns. I have the same GC Trophy. Mine has Pach wraparound grips. The gun has performed in a quality manner. The trigger is great. It is a shooter that can do what you ask. Although it may be more oriented for target, i.e. the sights may not come out of the holster cleanly, it is accurate and well balanced. I shoot it better than my Combat Commander. It has never needed a break in period for reliability. The feel and reliability have me sold on the GC.

I might add that the break in time on my Kimbers has been a must...They never ran well without 1000 plus rounds. I saved a lot of grief and time by getting the GC up and running with the first shots.

How can you go wrong with your HK? This too is a great weapon ... JV.

Aside from my rosewood grips looking alot nicer......yeap, that's pretty much what the "New" 70 Series guns look like.

I love the gun. It shoots WAY better than I can (something I'm looking forward to improving with the help of the GC). I just don't like the trigger. I've heard there are things that can be done about it, but I haven't seen any specifics. Do you know of any HK specific forums? Or is there a section of this site for discussing HKs?

Thanks for the info and comments.

On the forum index page, down toward the bottom, there's a forum for non-1911 firearms.

I would rather have the Gold Cup than the Sig outright. I have a Gold Cup and I doubt you could find a more reliable or better shooting pistol overall

Guys, is this the way Colt installs the Bomar?

http://forum.m1911.org/images/temp/bomarbad.jpg

I mean, I have seen sloppy sight installations, but this is too much for a company like Colt. My local gunsmith does a much better job than that, with the rear of the sight being totally flash against the rear of the slide.
