Ok so I apologize for the pics but here goes...
I am now using a tungsten guide rod. However, when I took out the rod today I noticed some damage to the barrel link housing. I can only imagin that this is incredibly serious...the guide rod has been impacting the housing and chipping it. I took pics of where Im talking about, in the reflection you can see the chiping, so what do I do?

These pics won't win you any awards but from what I can see it's the front of the barrel's legs that hit the guide rod. I would suggest you use a round file to remove some material from the top of the guide rod flange. Also smooth these burrs out on the barrel's legs with some emery cloth.

What is the flange you are referring to? The two "Legs" on the end of the fuide rod or the circular disc right at the end of the guide rod
The guide rod flange is the circular part at the rear of the guide rod. That part should not be totally circular, it has a cut out on the top. I have to assume that it is in this cut-out that the legs of the barrel hit to create those dings. Put the barrel on the frame, without the slide, pass the slide release in its normal position, then push the guide rod at its position and check.

Just to be clear, is the flange the red section or the disc right after it...

It's the disc. Just bevel the area between the little feet.
You have this thing in your pistol? !?!?!
Show me a picture of it without the red thing. This thing looks way out of the proper dimensions. If that disk is removed, then the area behind it will certainly contact the barrel's legs! And that thing is a shock buffer, which means it is compressible. Not good.

Hey John, I think he put that thing on there just to show us the different areas in question.

Correct, I showed it JUST for understanding of the areas. THAT is not in my pistol

I have problems getting closeups focused, but here's what needs to be done (if it works).

Show us a picture of your guide rod. There should be marks on it as well.

Take a file or grinder and remove enough off the guide rod where it's touching that it stops doing so. I hope the barrel isn't damaged badly enough to require replacement.

Many are but sometimes they need a little help.

Hi
If all of the parts in the guide rod are tungsten then that's part of the problem. Tungsten is pretty hard stuff. Most steel is softer.
With a normal guide rod things will wear equally between the rod and what it hits against. With tungsten most of the wear will be on the steel.
The answer is still the same as above. File or stone the appropriate end of the guide rod so it fits properly.
