View Full Version : Magazine Sticks In 1933 Commercial Colt

Hello to All,
I have a refinished 1933 commercial Colt Government Model that has a function glitch- the magazine, when inserted with the usual force required to seat it, sticks in the mag well and has to be rather forcefully pulled out. This occurs even when the mag release button has been removed. A little experimentation shows me that if the mag is inserted VERY gently, it will properly "click" into place, but if pushed it will go in about 1 more millimetre, and that's when it sticks. This happens with all my magazines, not just the one that came with the pistol. Can anyone suggest a solution to this problem?
Thanks very much for your time and thoughts.
Regards, Sgt. Q

grip screws too deep, bent trigger bows, faulty mag catch. I can't think of anything else that could cause sticking mags.

Try removing the grips and see if you can spot the area where the mag sticks.
Or remove the slide for a better view.
Does it happen with other mags?

Could be the mag catch is worn, and won't properly catch the mag, and it overshoots the release.

Also, check that the disconnector does not protrude in the magwell (I do not think it will) and that the sear spring protrusion is not coming inside the magwell.
