View Full Version : More Commander Musings - NRM and LW XSE?

I've been Commander archive hunting for an hour but can't locate any posts that explain what "NRM" stands for.

I have a very fine SI Kimber Compact but am beginning to think I also need a Colt. This must be early stage Coltitis.

Anyone know the weight of the LW XSE Commander?

Not particularly fond of front slide serrations or, for that matter, slanted serrations. Vertical serrations are just more traditional - to my eye, anyway.

NRM stands for New Rollmark and looks like this(only with the shorter slide):

From Ozark Guns website, the lightweight XSE weighs in at 26 ounces empty. For comparison a Glock 17 is 22 ounces empty.

Thanks for the info, garrett.

So... the LW only weighs 3 oz. more than a Defender. :D

K9american,
As my friend garrettwc kindly pointed out, the empty weight of the LW XSE is 26 ounces.

The pistol at the top is a Colt XSE LW Commander in nickel/stainless.
The middle gun is a Colt Model 04691 Commander, with the New Roll Marks.
The weapon at the bottom is a stainless Colt 04091U Commander.

The stainless Commander has a few of the "enhanced" features found on the XSE model. The blue Commander is much more representative of what Colt's Commanders have classically looked like. The roll mark on the blue Commander (hidden from view) is exactly like the one on the stainless pistol on the bottom. The black rubber stocks were changed out for a pair of cocobolo medallion stocks since this photograph was taken.

Here is an old roll mark commander for comparison

I hope you guys have large versions of these pics on your hard drive. John is going to be burning up his internet connection when he sees these pics. :D

On a side note, for those that like to connect the dots. If you take the LW XSE and coat it with a dark finish like Melonite or Cerakote, then you have a dark, corrosion resistant pistol that packs 8 rds of 45ACP in the same size/weight package as one of those plastic abominations. :p

Actually, as we live a hop skip and a jump (10 min) from the hot & salty Gulf Of Mexico, I was thinking either Black T or Robar Matte Black with NP3 innards. :D

Also, I'm gonna guess the LW XSE has a no-tool-needed-to field-strip bushing barrel. Right or wrong?

Needs arched MSH to fit my mitt. A minor detail.

Gee, Steve, are all those Colt's yours? Nice, nicer, nicest.

Well now that would work too ;)

The XSE has a standard barrel bushing as all Colts do. I don't remember if it's a FLGR or not.

Some do and some don't have FLGRs, mine did but I know when I reported it that others had chimed in saying theirs did not have it.

K9american,
As Jeff pointed out, some have the full length guide rod, while others have the more conventional short guide rod. Mine came with the short version, which I prefer anyway.

Thank you for the complimentary statement about my Colts. I'm quite proud of them. :)
