View Full Version : Another Problem

Hi
I have a bit of a problem. One of my son's buddies is stuck between living accommodations and we offered him the spare room. As usual this comes with the usual ammo and guns benefits.
So far no problem. We go through a bit more ammo than normal, but I'll chain him to the Dillon soon and that will be history.
The problem is that he came equipped. Not just equipped, but set up with a 1911. Not just a 1911, but a Colt. A nice Colt. A nice Colt from 1964 !! A nice Colt from 1964 *with* the Colt ACE 22 conversion !!!!
The biggest problem is that he has some odd notion that just because a blood relative carried it through the jungles in some odd corner of the world that he should hang on to it. I offered to swap it for a perfectly good Glock and he just laughed at me ....
I'll post some pictures once we get done cleaning it up. We'll get it out to the range later in the week. He's digging around in my collection of grips at the moment. We'll see what it looks like when he's done....

I just can't imagine what more this fellow could want. He gets a Glock and the opportunity to run your Dillon. :D :D :D How can it get any better than that? :D :D :D :D

Hi
That and all he'd have to do is explain to the Admiral what happened to the 1911. Sounds pretty easy to me :D :D :D

Hi
Did I mention that the blue is absolutely beautiful on this pistol? Deep blue, great polish job. Tool steel parts, 100% original.

Yes indeed. A deep blue finish and a great polish will excuse evil any day.

Don't you have any steel-eating raccoons in your area? Maybe you should ... hire one to remove the 1911 from its box when the guest is not at home. :D :) I think these creatures eat steel and vomit plastic.

Sounds like a nice pistol! I was told last week that I should get a Glock because my Gunsite didn't seem to like the dummy rounds, it choked on them for some reason. My comment was that it works just fine with real ammunition. Nice groups. And I passed the range qualification of the class first time out. 7 of those plastic gun people had to shoot it over to pass......Not to mention I was probably the oldest person on the line and I was shooting one of those jurassic Colt's! I don't need no steeenkin' 17 rounds of 9 MM per magazine!

Maybe subliminal messages pumped into his room at night on how the GLOCK IS MORE MODERN and therefore must be better will sway him! :D

If it's only an Admiral he has to answer to, you should be alright. If it was a Marine Sergeant you then have a problem!! :D

Hi
The Admiral is his Uncle. Family is always tough to deal with. He's also from Texas. At least the guided missile will take a while to get here. :D
There's a Master Sargent in the picture as well, but that gets a bit complicated (is it that the selves are to short or the stripes to wide to fit :D ...)
I upped the offer to a pair of Glocks last night. I think if anything the laugh was a bit louder. He did offer to store a few of my Colts for me though. They seem to be accumulating in a pile near the door. Hmmm... :scared: :scared: :scared:
I have always felt that I would like to get a Colt from the 50's or early 60's. Seeing this one has only reinforced that feeling. They really did make them well back then.
I think he's settled on the Hogue wrap around grips for range use. I suggested that he not use the original Colt grips. He's still sorting through the other stuff for a set of "dress up" stocks.
Hopefully we'll get out to the range tonight.

Any good gun shows coming up?

Hi
Next set of gun shows are in June. I'll probably be looking to see what I can find in the used Colt category.
A run for Chinese for dinner interrupted the trip to the range. I still hope to get there before dark.
Murder ... hmmm ... that's an option I had not given much consideration to. I'll probably up the offer to 3 Glocks first. Having 3 Glocks and no 1911 is nearly as bad as being dead .. (yikes, did I say that :nono: :nono: ).

Psst, Bob, I have an idea! ;) Tell him that his gun is going to honored by having it reviewed in the ezine. Then tell him that you'll take care of the shipping, hide the gun and tell him it was lost in the mail....pretty devious, huh? heh heh heh! :D You come out way ahead, you get to keep your plastic door stops and everything!! :)

Hi
Well the ezine idea *might* have worked earlier in the evening. Unfortunately we hauled about 200 rounds of ammo out to the range just now. He got a chance to shoot it for a while. He seems to like it. Such an odd reaction to shooting a Colt 1911. Who could have guessed :D :D :D
That said I think I am closer to the pistol. He has come back with a counter to my offer of two Glocks. If I throw in a new 700 series BMW he'll *think* about the deal. The way I figure it, I'm 2/3 of the way to the deal. Two out of the three things on the list .... :D :D
He also proved that the old style Colt mags with the dimple on them work a lot better than the 8 round "no dimple" ones I had along with me.
Now he's digging up information on WWII era Colts. Seems to have caught some kind of bug ...

Bob wouldn't it be easier to just adopt the lad and get the gun into the family that way?
Then when he goes out one day using the family car for a date or whatever you can pack and move without leaving a forwarding address.............presto.............the Colt is yours!

Hi
Let's see, if I swap him the house, does that mean he gets the mortgage?
Might be a plan ... :D :D :D
We are now trying to decide which of my spring sets are going to wind up in the pistol. I suspect that every 40 years or so swapping out the springs makes sense.

With the best interest of the Colt in mind; it should be stored in a low humidity climate - kinda like Arizona. :D

Take him Coyote hunting, if he doesn't return, It would be both excusable and praiseworthy.

Hi
There probably is a "low humidity climate" in the guy's future. It will be a bit east of here rather than west though.
He's talking about going home for the weekend. I wonder how long it will take to get the house sold and move out? Think we can do it in a day or two?

I hope he'll saty safe in that "low humidity climate" east of here...too bad they won't let him bring the pony.
