Hi all. I am a LE major in Michigan and I need good advice. I want to get a job with a dept that will let me carry my Kimber when I graduate but it seems more and more like all the departments I see have an issue piece that is required. I'm quite a long way away from graduating but I feel strongly about this and want the gun that keeps me safe to be a 1911 and a .45. Please tell me what you think.
Enjoy safe shooting!

Step one is to graduate. After that get hired. Don't be picky, just get on a department. Then once you've been hired, and passed your probationary period get picky. Don't say I'm gonna work for such and such a department, cuz chances are you aint gonna work for them. I know of a couple departments in IL that allow 1911's for duty, but not many. Also don't be affraid of the Glock, S&W Sigma, or any of the other fine firearms that are being issued to LEO's. Besides more and more departments are going to the .40 S&W round, and some are slowly going back to the .45 acp. You're in school now, so worry about that. Have fun, and graduate, then you can start to worry about carrying your Kimber on duty.
