Hi Folks,
I have an annoying problem with the trigger tracks on these Essex receivers. At the fore end of the track the must be a burr where the trigger bow seems to snap into place.
The first one doesn't effect trigger movement.
The second snaps in and binds in the full forward position.

Before I start re-shaping the ends of my stones to fit the fore end of track... Is there a better tool or method to remedy this?

thx,

If it's really bad you might need a file with one or more safe faces - depends if the rough spots are on the outside walls (likely) of the track vs the top or bottom of the channels.
For slower, less radical (ergo, safer?) polishing, a couple of different grits of paper glued to the square end of a chopstick makes a very well sized tool.

Check the rear of the trigger track too. Sometimes the rear of the trigger bow will catch on the corner where the trigger track intersects with the flat surface that the sear spring lays on.

Brownells makes both a stone and a file that fits the trigger track. The file is very fine with safe edges on both sides and I use this most of the time. I rarely use the stone. The file also fits between the upper lugs of barrels so you can use it when you need to remove metal there during barrel fitting (the lug file that Brownells sells is very coarse).

Recommend coating the front of the trigger bow (and trigger pad) with a marking pen to find out exactly where the bur in the trigger track is. If it's on an outside corner, the tip of a sharp screwdriver may scrape it off. Might even work for a bur inside the channel itself.

I use Canuck-Il's stick & paper method in the trigger track rather than creating a special stone. Auto parts stores (even out here in the boondocks) have silicon carbide wet-or-dry abrasive paper in grits as fine as 1500. 3M makes it as fine as 2000 grit!

Possibly. Brownells sells a special stone that's specifically for the trigger track. Do you have that stone? If not, I'd suggest buying it rather than altering a general purpose stone.

Thx Guys... Gotter Done
Sometimes you have to go back to kindergarten. Popcicle sticks and 800 wet/dry.
