Is this tightness normal on new colt? If so, will it loosen up after shooting?

Should be snug but not so tight you can get apart.

It will not become any easier with shooting, it will become easier as you disassemble and reassemble your pistol many times. Don't force things. When disassemblying, make sure the slide release is pushed down before trying to press it from the right side of the frame, that will help. When reinserting it, make sure that you push in and up at the same time, after you align the slide release with the opening in the frame. Also, you may want to stick a piece of electrician tape on the slide above the disassembly notch, so you do not scratch your slide in the process.

After doing it a few times, you'll get the hang of it.
