View Full Version : Curious 'bout something

I am curious about some of the features on my Colt. I have a "COLT M1991A1", series 80. I've been looking at pics here and it's raised questions. My ejection port appears lowered, but not 'flared', and I have a flat MSH. I was wondering if these are modifications or if it left the factory that way. Some of the pics show a standard ejection port, some don't, some have the arched MSH, some don't.
The pistol is matte blue (almost looks parkerized), has the cheap plastic trigger, and a full spur hammer, standard GS.
I've looked at the home page, but nothing matches up.
Is this just the cheap run of Colts or does it sound like the previous owner had some work done to it?

Although I guess the previous owner(s) may have had work done, you can request a letter from Colt as to how it left the factory, although in this case it may not be worth it, as the letter is not cheap.
I would try and talk with the previous owner(s) if at all possible, and it is probably not.

Twin Oaks it sounds like your are describing the ORM (old roll mark) version of the 1991. Matte blue(black) finish. GI style hammer and grip safety. M1991A1 in big block letters on the slide. It came from the factory with a lowered, but not flared ejection port and a plastic trigger. If you look closely the flat serrated mainspring housing is likely polymer as well. This is what was typical of the Colts shipped during the 90's.
It probably looks something like this:

Higher ejection ports and arched mainsrping housings are usually seen on series 70 Colts and on the WWII GI replica which is the 1911A1, not the 91A1.

Bingo! Garrettwc.
Thank you. I'm not able to reach the prev. owner, so I really don't know if it's 2nd or 3rd hand pistol. I haven't been able to find this exact model in pics, so I didn't know of the particulars. But that is the same model pistol I have. I appreciate the responses.
btw, any suggestions for reblueing?

Not sure. Maybe one of our other members will post. I seem to remember a company that does contract work for Colt that could re-blue it for you.

Just read another thread and one of the members indicated that *some*of the 1991a1's were indeed Parkerized. Methinks maybe I should research that more.
I made the silly mistake of carrying in a fobus holster and have worn the finish clear down to the shiny in two places :scared:. Since then, I've had to worry about the nasty red stuff . . .
And no, I can't post pics, my digicam is on the fritz
Can't you reach the top of your fritz?

Gimme a break, I have a really tall fritz.
I don't know how to fix cameras and currently all my new camera funds are tied up in *ahem* 'other' projects ( like Colts). Besides, I'm surprised that you'd encourage someone to post an ugly picture! She's a shooter, not a looker.
I'd have nearly 20 WHOLE MINUTES of cleaning to do before I'd post her pin up!
Seriously, though, do you know where I should look ( besides a Colt Letter) on how to determine if she's Blued or Parkerized?
Well, you do not have to look elsewhere, call Colt Monday morning and give them your serial #, they'll tell you. I do not think that Colt made any parkerized 1911s lately, I think it is matte blue (bluing after bead-blasting the pistol).

You're correct, parked models were made 1992-94, according to Colt.

-MikeWe like ALL pictures of guns :D
If you're looking to refinish her, there are lots of choices in finishes - all the way from a simple re-blue to hard chrome (grey and black) to ceramic.....

Here's a guy who sounds reasonable on re-blueing:
