Dan wesson sent me another slide stop for my PM-7. The slide stop will drop right in but it appears a bit tall because the slide will not move in either direction. Do yo take a little metal off the top or the slide stop where it goes into the slide stop notch or do you take metal off the bottom of the inside pad that goes through the frame? If you trim the inside pad it would allow the slide stop to drop down a little. Tried this stop in several other 1911's with the same results. Any suggestions? Thanks

Impossible to say without knowing what the measurements are.

If you have the capability of measuring to 0.001 inch, go to www.cncguns.com/downloads.html. In the drop down menu under Blueprints, open up Complete Set of 1911-A1 Parts and you'll find a blueprint for the slide stop. Compare your stop's measurements with the blueprint to tell what's out of spec.

If you do not have such a measurement capability, recommend you find someone who does and refrain from any filing before you find out exactly where the filing needs to be done.

This is based on the assumption that a Dan Wesson slide stop is (supposedly) made to USGI specifications, of course. If any of your other slide stops work in the Dan Wesson gun (especially a known Colt slide stop) that's probably a safe assumption, but an assumption only you can make. Regards.

How does it fit without the slide?

I had a fistful of slide stops there was a little too much material where the rod meets the lever. (did that make sense)

Without the slide on the gun the slide stop drops in with out any problems. Tried this slide stop in several other 1911's with the same results. With out the slide on the gun stop moves up and down just like it should. It appears the slide stop is a little taller where it goes into the slide notch. Tried other slide stops in this gun and everyone of them worked fine, SF& Kimber. I did not quite understand your answer but I appreciated your response. Thanks again.

Have a hunch that what Thegeeze was driving at was: when the slide stop is installed (minus the slide) does its operating arm fit snugly up against the outer surface of the receiver?

If the fillet where the pin meets the arm is too large it can keep it from being fully inserted in the receiver. If so, its take-down key (the lump on the top, aft, inner part of the arm) won't go in far enough to be free from the slide when the gun's assembled.

Also, if the arm is curved outward or angled outward toward its aft end the same thing will happen.
