Hi to all. I've been a member since October 2006 but did not get the chance to be active in the forum due to my schedule. While lurking around, I found the site very interesting which why I decided to start posting.
I have a query regarding aftermarket barrel bushings. Are they drop in? I plan to fit one in my NRM gov't model since I like the stainless look in a barrel bushing. Thanks for the inputs in advance.

Check out EGW on the banner , great bushings I have one plus they will make it a custom fit so it will truely be a drop in

Some are "drop in" and some are "match fit." If you measure the OD of your barrel and the ID of your slide, you might be able to find one that fits much tighter than your existing bushing but without any fitting required.

+1, measure the OD of the barrel and the ID of the slide and call EGW. They'll make you a bushing to fit your dimensions. They can also dehorn it for you, all for something like 20$. Can't beat that.

I don't think EGW is available here in our country. There are however other brands like Wilson combat. Would that work?

The Wilson Match bushing would likely require both turning the barrel and fitting to the slide. Not hard, with proper tools, but definitely not drop in. Factory would probably be easier for you, if you don't have access to a lathe and reamer.

Sorry, didn't check your flag! My mistake.

No problem, John. But I do wish we have easy access to excellent gun parts like EGW here. Unfortunately we have to contend with what is available. I may just have to ask my 'smith if he could possibly copy the stainless appearance by just hard chroming the existing blued barrel bushing. In that way I may not worry about the fit of the bushing to the barrel anymore. But I do hope that an aftermarket one could fit just right.

Jack1911, so you can't get parts from out of country?

We can do that actually. But strict gov't laws on guns and gun parts makes it difficult for us to import parts here. I had one very bad experience when a friend of mine from Az. USA sent me minor gun parts like grip screws and a beavertail which got stuck in our customs here and it took me 3 months to get it out plus tons of paperworks and the price tripled from the original SRP of the parts due to taxes. I guess the gov't made it that way to avoid unmonitored entry of guns and gun parts here.

Can't you buy a stainless barrel bushing from Armscor? Unless you are looking to achieve match-grade accuracy, standard barrel bushing pretty much are drop-in parts. You didn't say what your pistol is used or intended for, but it seems to me that most of those who responded more or less assumed that you are looking for target match accuracy, when normal off-the-shelf accuracy may be all you need. I know such folks are trying to be helpful, but they are applying their own standards to someone else's situation and it may not be analagous. There are times when "good enough" really is good enough.

Thanks for the input, Hawkmoon. I haven't thought of Armscor come to think of it. I do intend to achieve match grade accuracy if possible but off-the-shelf accuracy would do since I'll be using the NRM mainly as carry and from time to time for plinking. I wouldn't want to affect reliability though because of the bushing.
