Please excuse if this topic has already been covered, (I looked but did not see any), but my question is how many of the SIG 1911 parts are interchangeable with other 1911 variants? I heard that most were not and that is my biggest deterrent to jumping on the SIG bandwagon.

I had, and loved, a SIG 220, but the 1911 is a different animal.

nope--just the extractor. everything else is standard 1911

The SIG is actually a 1911 assembly from premium 1911 parts from name brand manufactures. There are no propritary parts on the pistol. (that I am aware of ) so all parts are / should be interchangable.

So jump into the SIG pool and enjoy. They are GREAT pistols. :D :D

except the extractor?
Longslide, i have heard a lot of anecdotal stuff about broken extractors....is that issue resolved?? are there any 3rd party companies that make a replacement tool-steel extractor??

That is a great question

I am not aware of who makes the extractor for SIG.

SIG uses an external extractor. The MIM vs. tool steel debate does not apply.

THAT IS TRUE! but not for the reason you state!

MIM vs tool steel debate does not apply because SIG uses NO MIM.

I have heard NUMEROUS reports of broken GSR extractors....

The debate is, whether or not someone else makes a GSR extractor that is BETTER than the stock one....

Caspian makes a replacement external extractor. I don't know if it's MIM or barstock.

The new SIGS 1911 are not made from other manufacters parts. Still no Mim parts are used. The new 1911 are all SIG.

I had read an article of an interview with the president of SIG on the internet - one of gun rags - It outlined the strategy for the SIG 1911 was to acquire quality parts from the best manufactures to Sig specs and assemble - build the Sig 1911 pistol.

Now they may have changed their strategy.

Not sure when it was written, but I will reseach it and as well call Sig to get more details.

Stay tuned.

SIGarms still uses parts from other manufacturers...they may make more in house but their magazines are outsourced...the sights, I believe are still Novak and "Novak-like"...

Where can I get some new springs , Recoil, main springs (reduced power) and extra power fing pin springs. Will any 1911 spring work or must they be SIGS?
Thanks in Advance

Any recoil spring for 5 inch will work. I recomend wolf springs. The MSH hammer springs and recoil springs from WWW.BROWNELLS.COM
OR WWW.MIDWAYUSA.COM

Sig's version of the 1911 uses the same type of springs as most other 1911s. There are various sources for the springs you are looking for. One of the most popular is Wolf Gun Springs. They several different spring sets for 1911s. They are sold by various vendors, Brownells, Midway etc. or can be purchased direct from their website.

Caspian made the frame and slide for the origional GSR's, but now they make their own.... Storm lake makes the barrels, and I believe that EGW makes some of the internals....

I got my wolf springs in, yet they don't taper as the SIG ones did. I have not yet been able to get SIG ones and don't need new ones yet. Wolf Springs are not tapered will that cause a problem? I always like to use the manufacturer's till at least the warranty is up

I brought a 18 1/2 and 16 1/2 LBS springs set. Thanks for your information.

You should be good to go with either one! Start with the 16.5# - eaiser on the slide slaming home to battery. If so FTF's go to the 18.5# and polish the feed ramp-just a little - with jewlers rouge.

I got SIG Spring's because it functions so good. It is a defensive pistol not a Comp. pistol I use a SIG 220 Match for match's with reduced trigger weight around 3 1/2 LBS.
I have still the other springs and at one point may install at least a lower mainspring to reduce the trigger yet due to laws and I carry it I will switch it back.
