Thanks ! I also have to report that the shop where I bought this informed me that Colt no longer produces anything but "Custom Shop" guns and that Commanders are no longer made so buy all you can find. ;)
(At least he didn't say Taurus bought them.)

Very nice! Gotta love the Commander!
Can someone explain "ORM" please? New to Colt's, but not 1911's...
Hunter
12th May 2007, 19:36
ORM is original roll mark. That is the large rollmark on the 1991A1 such as above.
NRM is new roll mark. That is the smaller rollmarks found on the 1991.
I hope that helps.

Hunter, thank for the info. With the new addition to my stable (WWI repro) i'm trying to absorb the Colt "ways" quickly. Is there any other significant difference between the two? They are both produced in 1991, but with diff. rollmarks?

Well they are similar. The 1991A1 was offered if matt blue and stainless. I believe some of the later 1991A1 were parkerized.
The 1991 was offered in stainless as well as blued. The 1991A1 was produced first and now the 1991 is the current offering. I have a 1991 in Super .38 and it is also an excellent pistol. The 1991A1 and 1991 line of Government Models from Colt are well built pistols.

Nice pistol, Bill! Congratulations! Interstingly, I spoke to a guy today who had just bought a new XSE Lightweight Commander...he said he's sure glad he got it because the dealer he bought it from said Colt is no longer making Commanders. News to me! :p

These guys must be listening to a Colt competitor's salesman. I'm always surprised that about half of the counter people at gunshops know nothing about Colt except misinformation. The other half are usually very knowledgeable.

Well i for one am going to make a call to good old Colt and try to get to the bottom of this.... i plan on spending alot of money on Commanders this year!!

See what I mean about those guys behind the gun counter! Half of them listen to the brand x 1911 mfr. sales reps stories and don't know jack, and then you have the other half, the guys like OD!

It's possible that Colt has finished the current run of Commanders and people are misunderstanding that. They do make the different models in "batches".

It's possible but I just think it's ignorance. He said it like none would ever be made again.

As far as I know. The gunshop owner bought this with other guns that came from an estate. He said it came with a non-Colt mag which he swapped out for a Colt one. Other than that , it appears to be unmodified.
Good looking Commander, Bill. http://forum.m1911.org/images/icons/icon14.gif
Can't say I recall seeing a 91A1 with an arched MSH and long trigger before, or hex head stock screws.

Good eye ! I wondered about that as well. Screws are an easy change but most don't change MSHs. However, with Colt's habit of using what is available, nothing would surprise me. :D

Yep, all my 91A1s (3) came with long trigger and flat MSHs.

Well ya never know. Every time I see a gent with a tattoo that says "Rosemary Forever" or something like that I ask 'em, "So who's your Momma now?" The reponse I usually get is:
:bf:
or some weak answer like, "Oh, Rosemary's my daughter."
Yea, right.
So there may be a place for temp tats, after all.
[As a primary care doc I see A LOT OF TATTOOS and I tend to use them as conversation starters.]

I thought that as well, but according to Colt they are different finishes.
TattooPaul
13th May 2007, 15:11
If I'm not mistaken the matte blue has to do with the surface prep and the type on bluing applied. I'm not sure it that type the blue is a gas-fornaced (with I thought was nor longer commonplace). Most parked finished are grey to green grey. I also believe the parked finishes, even the fine-grain, are coearser and hold lube longer.
If I am off base, someone plese set the record straight... _Paul
It's always a big plus on this forum to have those-in-the-know share wirh us so we don't spread a lot of well-intentioned but misguided info...
Someone please set this recoerd straight! Tahnk-you in advance!

Heya Paul, I'm just breakin' out of "you-know-which-brand" mold now for the first time really (with the exception of a brief stint with a RIA). I'm goin' full steam ahead with Colt. I didn't know what i was missing!! The in-hand-fit is something i didn't know existed...like a glove!
I apologize, but i didn't follow.."HD's aren't the fastest"...? Can you elaborate?

They other referece pertains to the fact that my Harleys don't set the world ablaze it other catagories but the sum total of thier performance. I beleive that you'll find the fit and balance to be exceptional. Very nice!!!!!!!
