Call Colt for the date 1-800-962-COLT
Looks a little used...I'd call it a shooter
Shooters are more fun anyway!

A nice shooter. Unless someone notes this is unique and there are no surprises inside, I would say a five to six hundred dollar gun.

i checked the barrel and it is dimpled.the trigger seems loose,a bit of sideplay, lateral and vertical
A very nice shooter I would say.

Colt will give you the year over the phone.
My 2003 5"XSE has the 1991 style sights but has an Ambidextrous Safety, so I would think that one with the standard safety was produced prior to mine.
I also believe that is is in fact an XSE and not an XS as it has front serrations.
One of my local shops has one of those (including the standard safety) new for $799.00.
I've been trying to resist it...
If you can get a reasonable deal on it it looks like it might be a good candidate for the "O" Package from Colt's custom shop. They could probably clean up the takedown scratch too.

Colt made the XS with front serrations, too. I did call Colt on this one and itis a 1999 04860XS, single side safety, Caspian 'style' grip safety from the factory:

Hi Ed,
It'd be a good shooter for sure. FWIW my full-size XSE has a looser fitting trigger than I'd prefer but the action is quite nice so I'm in no hurry to fit it better, or swap it out, but will do address it down the road.
I have heard the XSE's referrred to as factory enhanced but from what I can tell, someone correct me if I'm wrong, it's more in that they added extras that others add aftermarket - ambi-safety, beavertail grip safety, white dot improved sights, combat hammer, and the front serrations (love 'em or hate 'em). I don't believe that there is any special accurizing or fitting. I believe "enhanced" means "decked-out" more than anything.

Guys here is a quick history lesson. In 1992 Colt introduced a new set of features for its model 1911a1 series pistols. These new feature included the following: a flattop slide, angled rear slide serrations, scalloped ejection port, combat style hammer, beavertail grip safety, relief cut under trigger guard, and a long trigger. The Models that are affected by these up grades were the following : Delta Elite, Combat Elite, Government Model, Combat Commander, Light weight Commander , Officers ACP, officers ACP lightweight. These were pretty much discontinued on new guns. The only guns available now with the enhanced features are XSE's,Defenders and Gold cups. Hope this helps Larry :)

thanks for the info guys. i did the function test and i found out that the grip safety has been reworked by the owner. the hammer drops with out the bt safety being pressed.barrel fit when pressed from the port is tight.pretty good except for the idiot scratch.

The current Colt marketing verbiage indicates the XSE, in addition to the above, has "enhanced tolerances." Not sure exactly what that is supposed to mean...

is it possible to remove the idiot scratch thru polishing?

All the guns that are built on the enhanced specs. Are built to tighter tolerances. that is what they are referring to.... :)

Thanks, Larry. Based on some other recent threads I wondered if "enhanced tolerance" meant "more likely to be out of spec." Glad to hear it means "tighter."

Come on now. Does that comment add anything usefully to this discussion? :(

The hex head screws on the grips are interesting. Just like the new XSEs.
