What does a New in Box Colt series 70 go for these days? I am thinking about getting one but the price is very high. Another thing is how do I know it is a series 70 for sure and not a reissue or a scam?

An original MkIV/Series 70 Government Model will have
1) Small G.I. style sights
2) A collet-style barrel bushing mated to a barrel that is slightly thicker at the muzzle.
3) Serial numbers and model numbers that are appropriate to the model. (others will have to provide that information) The current production Series 70 guns have the Model # 01970A1 as a prefix. The serial number (on the current production guns) will not have a 70 prefix.

Those are the important things to look for in an original Series 70 pistol. I feel certain that others will offer their views as well.

That about covers it.

The original Series 70 have the '70' as part of the serial number..........either the prefix (early models) or the suffix (late models).

I would say 800-900+ for a good one...........even more if it's unfired.

Hi

If you get an original, be careful with the front sight. On the later production pistols they had a tendency to come off from time to time.

Another thing is how do I know it is a series 70 for sure and not a reissue or a scam?I'd probably opt for the Series 70 Reproduction if I was planning on using it as a regular "shooter" just because the price would be better and it would have the unlimited warranty (can't remember what year the warranty went into effect)...Bud's has it for $800 for the blued one, and that's not much more than cost! http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/index.php/cPath/141. I had thought about giving mine up but came to my senses! I do like that pistol!

I agree with Creighton, buy a new Series '70 repro for less money, if you plan to make it a regular shooter and or plan to customize it.

Speaking just for myself of course I think I like the 70 reproduuction better than the original 70.
Both are nice though.

I got a blue repro 70 for $755 at a gun show last weekend from AJC Sports (mentioned around here before). It was the only one they had at the show, don't know about the shop.

AJC sports and Buds are two mentioned here a lot because of low pricing. AJC will nick you 4% when you purchase with a CC though. Just a heads up!
