Colt M1911A1

I have a Colt m1911A1 that I bought from the widow of a service man about 20 years ago. I paid $75 at the time without the clip. The left side has some rust damage but all of the stampings are quite legible. The right side is in good shape. Serial #838XXX. I attended a gun show yesterday and I see that these things are now commanding a pretty penny. I am curious if what I have is just a shooter or if it has some collectible value. Any input will be appreciated. I realize that without pix it is impossible to tell for sure.

Rust damage will greatly decrease its value. Without seeing the gun or at least good pictures, it is impossible to give any idea of what it would be worth.
