Edit: I searched some more and I think I found the answer, an unfortunate "no".

The 1991A1 commander model looks appealing, but I don't want the added parts. I don't want a collector pistol, I want one that I can shoot and not have to spend a fortune on.

Here are my 2 1911's. The one on the left is my High-Standard, and the one on the right was my Grandfather's pistol from WWII, a civilian model made 90 years ago.

You're right, nothing current........but we have many bugs in the ears of Colt, wanting a Commander & Combat Commander without the firing pin safety.

Hopefully someday soooooooon!

Yes, although we hope, the answer is no right now. On the used market I have seen holster worn blued Commanders made in the 70s that were still in great condition in the $500 range and a couple of O.K. Satin Nickle Combat Commanders that did not look that great cosmetically but would be great shooters in the mid to high $400 range. This was in the New Mexico, area in the last several months. These were guns that looked original except for the grips (no ambi safeties or beavertails, etc.). They were all .45s and don't try to get a deal on a 38 Super down there.
