Greetings
This is my first post to M-1911. Greetings y'all.
While late-night web surfing (and well lubed with a rather nice cabernet) I visited Hogue's auction page where they sell seconds with blemishes and "select" grips.
There is a nifty looking tulipwood with finger grooves grip sized for the Officers model that I decided I just had to have for my Kimber Compact. Mind you, I have never handled a 1911 which had finger-groove grips installed and have no idea whatsoever if they will help or hinder my semi-competent shooting.
I have Hogue rubber groove grips on a Ruger P94 and they are OK on that weapon.
Thoughts?
cheers

love em on my 1911, but if I ever come up with the money to send it off and have the front of the grip checkered, I will put regular grips back on mine...

Greetings,
Aesthetically horrible, and functionally beautiful. For those that find them necessary, they work great. I don't own any, but I like the "full handed" feel they offer while shooting at the range. If you have the hands for them, the ergonomics can work wonders on shooting performance. I wouldn't use or suggest them for carry.

Rubber grips have pros and cons. If your hands are wet, nothing grips better. For CCW, the rubber tends to grab on your clothes, car seats, chairs, etc. My Colt Defender+ came stock with Hogue wrap-around rubber grips and everyone who holds it, likes the feel. For CCW, I prefer Alumagrips & Carbon Creations because they are slick to the touch and down right pretty. Hey - to each his own.

I have hogue grips on several of my pistols and I really like them. I have to agree with other member's comments on catching on clothing though. For competition they help a lot in terms of controlling muzzle flip. For hunting I like the fingergrooves for the stability they add, and the secure grip when wearing gloves or if your hands are wet.
Enjoy safe shooting!

At the latest gun show I went to this weekend I came across a nice Kimber with rubber grips in the classic double diamond pattern. When I came home I did an Internet search and found the following item from Hogue:

Was wondering if anyone else has seen these, or has any experience/comments about them.

I bought a new Kimber Ultra Carry II a while back and it had Hogue rubber grips on it. I replaced them with cocobolo and it sure improved the appearance of the weapon (to me).

I just put the hogue wraparounds on my officers and my Beretta. I think there awesome on the officers but a little big on the beretta. How do I put an image on this thing? When I click image it just shows [IMG]? Come on its my second thread.

I just got a pair last weekend for my fullsize SA and love them... the others are correct in that they do drag at your clothes more, but IMHO the ability to grip the gun better outweighs this.

I like these on this one, though there are better looking grips, these go well with this setup.

Bravo Zulu, NW! And you're welcome. Now why are you messing up a beautiful 1911 by having it in the same picture as that sissy gun on the left? :)
Just kidding. Seriously, the grips look good on both pieces, but I can imaging just how much they "stick" to clothing, which for concealment wouldn't be good.

Love the finger grips. If you want finger grips and want to keep a certain look to you 1911, here's what I did...
I have a series 80 Colt in stainless that came with Hogue wrap arounds. I didn't like the look or feel of the black rubber in my palm, but did like the finger grips they provided.
I went to http://www.ajaxgrips.com/ and got a pair of ivory polymer with gold Colt medallions ($30.00) and a Colt 1911 modular($9.95). Looks good, feels great. I did the same with my Colt Deffender. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y46/JACKBURTON1968/STUFF/100_0338.jpg

I had another thought about this. Pacmayer makes a grip called the american legend series. These are wooden grips with decelerator fingergrooves incorporated into them. They offer the look and style of wood with the sure grip of rubber.
Enjoy safe shooting!
