Hey everyone,
I am looking to get a colt 1911.I want a 5" basic model. I would like to find a used one, even if the surface is a little rugged. How much should I pay for one? Thanks for the help. All opinions welcomed.

Be prepared to shop. I have seen used but not abused or molested (no beavertails, etc) Gov. models as low as $400 for a nice 90's gun. Unfortunately I have also seen them as high as $1K for a "70's" gun.

I just saw a series 70 at a gun show that almost looked like it had a minor case of leprosy. It had a price tag of 469.00 on it. I recall seeing a refinished, black, series 80 on gunsamerica for 400.00. Just to give you some ideas. Good luck! :)

Fsu,
A "good quality" Series 80 Government can be bought in most places in the 500-700 range. Remember that condition is everything on firearms so a well worn current model can be had for far less than a well cared for similar example.
Good luck

Agree with all. Don't get in a hurry and don't "fall in love" with any particular gun if you're just looking for a well-priced, well cared-for shooter.
