Ok, so I ordered my CBOB .45 on March 5th, and still no word. The gun shop assures me that when it comes in they'll call me. How nice of them.

Has anyone else had problems getting their stuff?

I'm not sure that's necessarily unreasonable yet. It's a popular gun, and it may not be in stock anywhere right now. For example, Davidson's shows none in stock. Now if you left a deposit, you might want to ask your dealer a few questions such as whether they confirmed availability from the distributor or Dan Wesson, if they would do so, and if they would check around to see if it's available through some other distributor.

It's my understanding that a maker will often make a run of a particular model, and supply can dry up until the next run.

That is my understanding as well. My local toy store often makes comments to customers that a particular model manufacturing run has been exhausted and the manufacturer will not make any more for x number of months.

too long a wait.

At what point does it become unreasonable?

I guess it depends on the reason for the delay. If there are none available because all current production of that model have been sold, it's going to take as long as it takes for the maker to make more. If on the other hand, your dealer isn't working at finding an available gun, and if you've given him a deposit, you probably ought to get your deposit back and find another dealer.

That's an easy one. When YOU feel it's unreasonable.

A buddy of mine ordered a Taurus PT1911 in stainless from Gander Mountain a few months back, and plopped down half the money for it as a deposit. After a few weeks, I found out when he complained to me about how long his wait had been, and I had to point out to him that, as far as I knew ( and he later confirmed this with Taurus), they weren't MAKING them in stainless for general distribution, but may start late this year. Needless to say, he got his money back.

Good luck.

It's really not unreasonable, yet. The shop owner basically gets "in line" for the pistols as the supply gets replentished.

Also, the DW's are becoming more and more popular and since they aren't a "pumped out" pistol, the wait time is a little longer than others.

I was able to find a NIB 2006 CBOB with 25lpi checkering, so I'm happy. Unfortunately, the shop is on the other side of the country and I'm looking at a week for it to get here. Then I've got to put up with the 10-day California waiting period. I'm probably looking at close to a month to get it. Irritating, but not as bad as waiting three months for my new car to be built. I survived that, so I hope I'll be okay. I think my wife is getting irritated at me pointing things at the target taped to my wall and yelling "bang!" :scared:

Sure glad I snapped mine up last summer.

I always leave a deposit that is much less than the dealer requests. It provides more incentive for the dealer to work harder.

How was the break-in period? I'm planning on cleaning the gun immediatly and then running 500 rounds through it. With the gun's tight tolerances I expect lots of FTFs during break-in, but I'm going to do 500 rounds before thinking I have a problem.

Joe

Mine was a little rough for the first couple months. I had a cracked bushing that I replaced with an EGW anglebore. Put an EGW firing pin stop in it at the same time. The " match chamber" thing was the worst. Factory rounds are ok, but if it won't shoot my reloads, I don't want it. The Lee factory crimp die solved that. I still might buy a finish reamer from Brownells since I do have a PM7 that that I like and I can ream 'em both. Even with the problems, I won't get rid of either of my Dans. I'm a tinkerer anyway. Now I gotta call VZ and get a set of slim 320 grips for the bobtail, and I'll be good to go.

I would contact the dealer and inform him that if the gun is not in by a date specified by you, that you want a refund of your deposit.

I sent an email to DW asking what the deal was. This was the response I received;

"I am sorry,
We do have quite a few on backorder. We do run in batches. I am doing some now and more next month. I hope that you receive yours soon.

For whatever that's worth.

I'm planning to replace the bushing as soon as I get mine because I want a stainless one to match the rest of the gun and I plan to examine the firing pin stop because I've heard most of them are a little loose. I plan to shoot factory ammo because I don't have room for a reloading setup, so that shouldn't be a problem. I'm still trying to decide between Davidson Wyrm grips or the blue dymondwood checkered grips from Ahrends.

Mainspring,

It looks like the problem has been that there were no guns available. It also looks like they're making more. So it probably all depends on where your order is in the queue. I'm sure that they are clearing the backorders in the order originally placed.

Yeah, hopefully I have a good place in the queue. I've got someone on the hook to buy my Kahr K40 that I need to get rid of to finalize this purchase, but I can't let the Kahr go until I get the CBOB up and running because my work frequently takes me into Ohio with their goofy county by county gun laws and magazine restrictions...making me not want to carry the Glock 22 when my work could take me into Ohio. (Breath) On top of all of that, they guy who's on the hook for my Kahr has someone on the hook to buy HIS Kahr P40, which he needs to make happen so that he can acquire my K40.

Got all that? lol

On March 14 all those laws changed. The state wide preemption went into effect. All local laws are now trumped by state law. Toledo said they will abide by state law. The mayor of Cleveland said he was going to break the law by enforcing Cleveland's local laws. I think the chief of police said he was going to abide by state law.

My dealer called today and said that my CBOB finally arrived. I went in today to check it out. WOO HOO!!! 25lpi and all. Now I just have to get my Kahr to the buyer I have lined up to get my new baby out of hock. I should have it moved into it's new home in a couple of days. This couple of days waiting is worse than the past 7 weeks. UGH!

I know how you feel. Mine is here, but I have to wait 10 days due to California's waiting period.

I tried to use a smiley to show what I think about California's attorney general, but it shows the wrong end!

Is the wait in Cali 10 days? Yikes!!!!!

Well, regardless, those guns are well worth the wait. Now I'm thinking I need another DW!
