My father was in the battle of the bulge with this gun,so needless to say it has very special meaning to me.The rear sight is actually missing a chunk due to a piece of shrapnel that hit it,and very luckilly not him.I want to clean it up and shoot it for the first time on american soil.He also gave me this 32 savage ,any info on that would be greatly apreciated also.I've been reading the posts but this is my first attempt to put one of my own up.My father passed eight months ago and he would have wanted me to be proud of these.I'm not sure how to attach pictures yet. serial#1,114,***
thanks pitt.

That's an important family heirloom you have there. Make certain to write down it's history so it can be passed on again.
Thanks for the pics, it looks to be in pretty decent shape for it's age and use.

Welcome to the Forum, pitt. That's a great story and I know how proud of it you must be. The history of these pistols is what make them so special. And I'd like to offer my condolences on the loss of your father. Joni Lynn, you sure has the right idea...I've tried to write up a little about each my "special" pistols, and include a picuture or two of it in a Word document in hopes that someday someone will be interested in it's history.

The right side grip has been replaced at some point, perhaps as a result of the shrapnel damaging the original one.

Nice pistols, and I am sorry for your loss. My dad, also a WWII vet, passed a short while ago as well. Enjoy your father's legacy.

Don't you mean left grip has been replaced? Right grip panel looks like a Colt wide ring...correct for a '43 Colt. 1,114xxx is a Colt number.
