View Full Version : a big +1 for the EGW FP stop

after reading a lot about the EGW square stops here, I broke down and fitted one to my Kimber Warrior and my Springfield LW 5". I replaced the 18# Wolff recoil springs with 16# ISMI chrome-silicons, and the mainsprings with 23# Wolffs. A slight bevel, and a trip to the Parkerizing tank, and I was off and running.

This mod made Federal 230gr +P HST rounds almost as pleasant to shoot as ball...and both the guns cycle perfectly with everything from +P, to ball, to my 200gr LSWC/825fps reloads.

I'm a believer. I'm putting one in my CQB and my Nighthawk 10-8 straightaway.

Yep. The system works well. You did it right by not varying any part of it...just like ol' JMB prescribed.

Amazin' difference...ain't it? :)

Absolutely amazing. I'm evangelizing for it tomorrow at an IDPA match :D

And in other news, I rescued a Bearded Collie last week. :D

Got one on mine also, tested it out today. The result is very noticeable. The follow up shots are faster and more consistent. Well worth the money. One question for Tuner, since the FP mod, the shells are flying up and vertical hitting my head instead of up and to the right. What can I do to fix that?

Guess I'm in the right place to ask.

I was wondering if I should change the recoil spring when I fit the EGW FPS on my RIA GI?
If so, what size?

I see a mention of main spring as well.
Guidance appreciated

BTW, to get on Tunner's good side :)

here's one we rescued and became part of the family
(not a Collie, I know, but what the heck)

For Government Models and Commander-class pistols with standard recoil systems:

16-pound recoil spring. 23-pound mainspring. 1/16th radius on the stop.

Blessings on ya for doin' right by that dog. They're aware that they've been abandoned, and they're also aware that they've been rescued...and are appreciative until the day they die.

So is there any place to buy a pre-radiused stop, for those of us that are too chicken to try filing?
