View Full Version : Ejector

I installed a Wilson Cambat extractor in my SA Loaded. The original was flattened out compared to the new one. I had to slightly remove some material from the FP stop to fit the new extractor. I believe, from the way the new one fits, that the old one needed tensioning and was clocking. The new one fits much tighter.
My empties now all go generally in the same direction, which is much better than before, although I only had time for a brief test.
Now my new question. Is there a way to "aim" my empty brass? They are going generally straight right. I would like them to go right and back. Would an extended ejector do that, or would it just throw them further right?
I have a 16# recoil spring in this pistol and am shooting either a 185gr or 200gr LSWC over 4.5gr WST. It isn't a full power load, but isn't real light either. I use this for falling plate matches.
Thanks,
Jim

My somewhat limited experience with extended ejectors has led me to believe there's no way to tell what change (if any) will be made in the ejection pattern by going from a standard to extended ejector.
About all I know for certain is an extended ejector will initiate the ejection sequence at a higher rearward slide velocity - that's just plain common sense.
However, there's too many other factors that affect where the case hits the ground: extractor tension; extractor hook geometry; extractor clocking; ejection port geometry; howmany times the case mouth contacts the bottom and top edges of the ejection port; ejector nose geometry; etc.
IMHO, unless somebody with lots more smarts knows and chimes in, the only advise I can give is - install one and see where they go! Regards

Thank you very much! That is a very useful page of info. I think it will help me do what I am wanting.

I've given up on precise empties placement long ago. Too much dark age mystique in there.

If it is placing your brass in a neat little pile, but the pile isn't where you want it, move your bucket. :D

That's a great reference, Hersh! The usual answer to Pepperbelly's question is "tune the extractor & ejector", with no details on how to do it. Maybe I can smooth the feeding/chambering on my P14 now. A videotape clearly shows that the slide actually stops briefly when chambering a round. Thank you very much! :)
