View Full Version : What makes the back of slide not match up with frame?

I have done some searching and found one old post where the slide was over the back of the frame - my problem is just the opposite. My slide does not meet all the way to the back of the frame. I say it is about .010 out. Should I just dress it up with a file or is this something to be concerned with?
What I have is a AO (Kahr) frame and a Essex Enhanced slide with a Ed Brown barrel/bushing. The barrel came with instructions that state the front of the lower lugs legs can be cut to "improve rear slide to frame match-up". But would that not be if the slide stuck out as opposed to the frame sticking out?

If the lower lugs are already properly dimensioned, I wouldn't fiddle with them for the sake of cosmetically matching the slide and frame.

Genrally its when the barrel feet aren't taken down enough, but since you have mis-matched slide/frame...........it could be out of specs parts as well.
It sounds like the barrel feet on the Brown barrel could be trimmed up a bit to get the frame/slide to match.
If the feet are too thick, the slide will stick out past the frame on the rear.

The answer to your question is "Yes".
You said your slide is too far forward in battery, exposing about 0.010 inch of the top of the receiver behind the slide. I don't think that's too bad a mismatch and the only solutions (other than dressing the aft end of the receiver's top) are a new barrel or weld up and refit the feet of your present barrel.
IMHO, that's a lot of fuss & bother over a 0.010 inch mismatch. I'd just stone off any sharp corners on the receiver and live with it. Regards

That is correct. With a 0.010" difference, it's simply not worth welding the barrel feet and recutting. I would blend frame and slide together. We blend frame and slide on EVERY build before refinishing, wether fitting new extractor or beavertail grip safety or not.

I'm sorry, I mis-read your post.
For some reason I thought the slide was still back of the frame......
Ok.......never mind........I'll go back to my corner now.
I agree with Rick, leave it as is........

Thanks guys for your feedback. I think I will just dress up the back side of the frame with a file, and leave it. :D
