Sharp pistol.

Definately seems to be a lot of bang for the buck...

One question...does the Spartan have the STI/Texas rollmark on the right side of the slide like the other STIs?

Interesting...I wonder why that is? I like that logo.

regardless, it's pretty penny-ante in the scheme of this nice shooter.

I guess - and it is just that - a guess that they want to keep a wide gap between the Spartan and the Trojan.

Is RIA an affiliate of Armscor? Just curious as all the Spartans I've seen were made by Armscor.

Nevermind. Looked it up and RIA is Armscor.

Armscor and RIA are the same company just different rollmarks.

For 2007 the Armscor line was dropped/incorporated to all pistols having RIA rollmark.

The Spartan is made my RIA for STI- RIA slide frame to SIT specs -(internals made by STI and shipped to RIA) pistol is assembled by RIA - sold under STI Rollmark and serviced by STI.

Mine did have Made By Armscor stamped right above the right grip. Wasn't aware that RIA and Armscor was one of two. Learn something everyday. :)

Good luck and congrats on the Spartan. Mine was not what up to par with the all the hype they receive. The hammer pin or frame (something) was out of spec because the hammer actually rubbed the left side of the slide when down. STI's response via Chris Schermer; If the hammer makes contact with the firing pin it is within spec for the Spartan.

The firing pin stop was not fitted correctly. It set in the grooves at almost a 10 degree angle and was very loose. Loose to the point I was afraid it would fall out or cause the extractor to clock. STI's response via Chris Schermer; If the firing pin stop holds the firing pin in then it is within spec for the Spartan.

I've owned STI Edge and a Trojan and was well pleased with both these guns. I can understand some guns getting by QC with a mix up or two and expect it even more on the cheaper line of Spartan's but when STI states that "If it works, it's within spec", it put a sour taste in my mouth.

Good luck with yours.

WOW - that is scary news -not happy to hear that about the Spartan.

I hope the one comming to me has better fit for those issues. The Spartan is not a low priced pistol - relatively speaking - what really bothers me is the caviler service response from STI. This will be my first STI pistol.

As you now SERVICE is the name of the 1911 game!

I'm sure your's will be fine. With my luck if they make 10,000 and put out 5 bad ones, I'm usually one that will receive a bad one :)

Basically what Chris said was that the Spartan was a low end 1911 to attract more business for them and if it functioned it would pass QC. He also stated that he was not gonna let customers turn it into a $1000. Trojan by having to repair "cosmetic" issues such as the warped hammer, firing pin stop and mainspring housing that sit's lower than the frame.

Did you take any pictures of these discrepancies?

I didn't. Sold it last week.

Well I guess that is a point of view - Some companies have had that point of view about customer service and the result is you own ONE of them versus the 9 RIA I own and the many SA's - When you give customers the take it or leave it approach - leaving it if not a bad option.

Conpared to the service model of the cross cannon rollmark company - if it does not work they fix it. UMMM hard to imagine a Chevy becoming a Cadilac because of repair/performance issues.

Guess it is all in how you view yourself and your products in the market. If that is the approach of STI - guarantee you the Spartan will be the ONLY one I own.

Sorry you didn't get the service you needed on the Spartan. The same guy, Chris, took care of my problem with MSH holes very quickly and seemed anxious to make the gun right. I don't have a gazillion rounds through it and am not sure it is a "cheap" weapon, but it has been at least a reasonable deal for me. Darn sure as nice as my Trojan, though, and I bet a Trojan is pretty far removed from their pricier guns.

Now that is interesting - ummm one got your pistol fixed
the other service person said if it shoots its in spec.

interesting dicodomy!

Okay, what I MEANT to say post before last was "darn sure NOT as nice as my Trojan"...but yall probably figured out what I meant. At any rate, I'm reasonably sure that my next 1911 will be an STI also. Heck, I may even trade the Spartan on one! I've looked at a couple of 2011s in the last couple of days and they are very well made....looked at a 2011 frame/slide today, and it was like greased glass on ball bearings.

2011 -- GREASED GLASS ON BALL BEARINGS!!! Now that is one SMOOTH PISTOL :scared: :lm:

I HAVE ONLY seen pictures I would like to see one in REAL life one day.

But I just came from a 1911 AA meeting! no more 1911's for ME :nono: :D :D

I also have BRIDGE I am trying to sell :dead_hors
