My late 1970 vintage Colt Gold Cup has lost its once stellar accuracy. But I have sent thousands of rounds downrange through it over the years. I mostly use it for shooting ground squirrels, pop cans, etc. So the accuracy has got to be there.
The pistol was a gift from my father. I wish to keep it as close to stock as possible. The finish still looks great overall. However, I notice that the slide could be tighter to the frame. I question whether the collet type barrel bushing is locking the barrel up consistently from shot to shot. Maybe the barrel is worn too, although most of the bullets were cast. Years ago, the roll pin hole in the factory Colt-Elliason rear sight became egged-out causing looseness of the sight on the slide. I temporarily solved that problem by installing an aftermarket Millett with a slightly larger roll pin.
I would like to have the accuracy restored and the Elliason sight reattached if possible. I would also like to maintain the current finish. I am seeking advice on which gunsmith to send my pistol to. Does anyone have direct experience with having your pistol serviced for a similar problem? I am seeking all advice on the matter.
Thanks.
