Hey folks, I'm getting back into 1911's Haven't been there for quite a while.

So, I picked up a Remington rand pistol. It's been refinished I can make out the symbol on the frame the letters FHA or FIA? S# 1880## but the one is backwards???
And the letter "P" under the mag release.

The slide only has the letter "P"?? up near the rear sight.

BArrel bushing has "N" 72677## "M"

Any help or hisstory on the piece?? It's very dirty and the very dry. It's also weraing a set of custome grips. for a right handed shooter. Palm side is all checkered. But the left side has a thumb rest and the remainder is checkered.

any and all help on this great old piece would be great.

thanks

OK its "FJA" And What I thought was the remington rand symbol is actually the Ordinace inspection mark 1942 only partially struck.

So what is it??

Oh, and there is no us prop markings? So, is this a 1917 colt arsenal refinished.

1880xx should be 1880xxx to have the FJA mark or the serial is altered. Alteration might explain the backward charcters. 1880xxx was assigned to Ithaca.

Absense of the USP and evidently the MODEL OF 1911A1 U.S. ARMY indicates removed markings from the frame and the slide also if only the P remains. The barrel bushing is post war.

The barrel bushing is National Match (NM) and the number 7267718 is the part number, these were used on all the '55 - '68 NM pistols. The last four digits of the serial number are engraved on the right side of the tube when installed on the NM pistols. The pistol sounds like it has been butchered by someone at some point.

Thanks guy's,

Well, it only has 6 digits in the S#, so it looks like this one is lost to history?

I decent deal on it and it's a great old pistol.

I'll just shoot the heck out of and enjoy.....

A picture of the serial number area, may help in figuring out what may, or may not have happened there. I know it has my curiosity up...
