Hi guys i am kinda thinking of installing new sights for my new 1911, i have read the sticky threads and the how to install sights but call me slow but i need pics for each step.. :) :) my dealer/gunsmith said he will do it for me for$45 bucks, it seems reasonable but i have this itch that i can do it myself and then if i have an oops along the way i'll bring to him...any help will be much appriciated..And yes i am new at this 1911 addiction so bear with me..thanks :o :o

Installing a new rear sight in an existing dovetail is pretty simple with a brass drift, a small hammer and a vise. If the front is staked, you will need to break out a Dremel and do some grinding. Depending on your skills wiith that, you could end up making a big OOPS that will cost a bunch more than 45 bucks to fix. Only you know your comfort level with the tools needed to do the job.

Vikz,

It also depends on the make of 1911 that you have. I have changed sights on Springfields (easy) and Kimbers (hard) - I bought one of the sight tools from Brownells and installed night sights on my Kimber Pro Carry HD II. I might do it again, but would probably have my gunsmith do it, so that if he screws it up he has to rectify it. Kimbers really install their sights from the factory very tightly.
