Series 80 Disassembly

I have a Series 80 Combat Elite and was trying to disassemble the lower to give it a complete cleaning. Looking at some of the websites, it said, with the hammer cocked, push the thumb safety to almost on and pull it from the left side of the frame. I tried and all the effort of two men and a small boy could not get the thumb safety to slide to the left. I tried gently releasing the hammer and cocking it again, but to no avail. Any thoughts? Any other gotchas on disassembling the lower? I've had a few thousand rounds through it and figured it was due.

Cock the hammer and then wiggle the safety (move it slowly up and down around the center of its travel), it shouldn't require any force, you just have to find the right spot, where it is released and comes out.
