I just completed my first build of a 1911. The gun works great except for one thing. Every now and then, happens with all 8 of my mags but never all the time, the first round out of the magazine won't go fully into battery. It hangs up half way into the chamber. When this does happen a little bit of thumb pressure on the back of the slide fixes the problem and the gun goes into battery.

I'm using CMC 8rd Shooting Star mags with 200gr jacketed SWC seated to 1.225. It will on ocasion do it on another round out of the magazine, maybe once every 150-200 rounds.

I have some GI 7rd mags but they hate the SWC bullets so I haven't tried them to see if the same thing happens.

Particulars on my gun:
Series 80 Colt, 16lbs ISMI action spring, 23lbs main spring, polished breech face, tuned (but not re-tensioned) extractor, STI extended ejector, Series 70 collet bushing, Colt N.M. barrel, EGW O/S slide stop. Lubricated using Mobil 1 full synthetic 15w-50. Gun goes into battery VERY smoothly with no Ca-Chunk! Sounds funny but it feels almost fluid in motion!

Make sure the barrel is clear and the finished rounds aren't too long.
