When i rack the slide of a 1911, it requires me to pull the trigger twice. When i just cock the hammer, it functions just fine. Also when i rack the slide with alot of force it works fine. I hear a click when i release the trigger which then allows me to pull the trigger and allow the hammer to fall.

My basic problem is that when i release te pressure softly from the disconector, it requires me to pull the trigger twice. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this?

I'll take a WAG and say that the leg on your sear spring isn't actuating your disconnector properly. Tweak it and see what happens.

If I read your post correctly, you need more tension so bend the leg toward the front of the gun.

(of course, it could also just be really dirty and sticking in the frame hole)

Hi

Is the sear spring seated correctly?

If it is pull off the grip safety and see if the problem goes away.

I have experienced the same thing with two different pistols. In both cases I finally traced the problem to a sear spring of unknown origin that was too long. The result was that the middle leaf, instead of pressing UP against the sloped/beveled surface of the disconnector, was putting more pressure IN and forcing the disconnector pad to rub hard against the trigger bow. The disconnector wasn't moving up until the first press of the trigger disturbed things enough to allow it to move up.

The solution in both cases was to install a new Colt-brand sear spring.

Hi

I suppose it could be a burr on the disconnecter, or the front edge of the disconnecter catching the mag.

Sorry for the delayed response. I have been tinkering with the sear spring, and that is definitely the problem. have tweaked the spring and it seems to be functioning correctly now. I will however get a new sear spring(probably 5 or so to keep on hand).

Thank you so much for the help. This forum and the posters of this forum have become invaluable to me.

Hi

Sear springs are cheap. Replacing one isn't going to break the bank. I'm glad it was that simple.
